THIS IS US’s Chris Sullivan just got cast for THE ROOKIE: NORTH’s pilot.

Sullivan will star as Sgt. Nix in the spinoff series. Nix is a watch commander who misses his beat on the street, Deadline reported.

INSECURE’s Jay Ellis, who leads the project, will also star.

The series follows Alex Holland (Ellis), whose life purpose revives after a violent home invasion. He joins a force in Washington as their oldest rookie and realizes he’s got to prove he’s worth his salt.

Sullivan is a two-time Emmy nominee who recently starred in Peacock’s DEVIL IN DISGUISE: JOHN WAYNE GACY. He’s also starred in Dunham’s CAMPING, CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM, STRANGER THINGS, THE GOOD FIGHT, THE KNICK, PRESENCE, THE CALLING and more.

The pilot will begin its shoot in February in Vancouver. Ellis won’t appear in THE ROOKIE this season, as creators hope for his steady appearance in NORTH if the pilot passes the test.

Series creator Alexi Hawley said, “I think ultimately, what I got excited about was, I think every patrol cop show versus a procedural has really been big-city oriented, New York, Boston, Chicago, L.A., so I like the idea that this place is a bigger slice of America, where people live. The county that they’re policing does include Tacoma, so there is some urban, but at the same time, it’s also the suburbs and the exurbs, and it’s also the meth lab in the woods, and a National Park, and there’s a military base. That sort of county is really interesting.”

“I thought it would just immediately set the show apart visually and then thematically; I think our lead, the character that Jay plays, is a guy who never really found something he’s passionate about before this,” he continued. “And part of that has to do with a tragedy in his past, which we get into a little bit. So that was a little bit of a different way in; it is a guy who’s a little more lost.”

Hawley writes and serves as an executive producer alongside Nathan Fillion, Mark Gordon, Bill Norcross and Michelle Chapman. Lionsgate and 20th Television are the studios behind the show.

THE ROOKIE: NORTH will debut sometime this year.

THE ROOKIE Season 8 recently filmed outside of the U.S. for the first time in the show’s history for its first episode, “Czech Mate,” in Prague, CBR reported.

THE ROOKIE Season 8 episodes currently air on ABC on Tuesday nights, per Collider.
