Crystal Hefner Exposes Husband’s ‘Objectification And Misogyny’ In New Book

Hugh Hefner’s widow Crystal is exposing the “objectification and misogyny” of her late husband’s infamous Playboy mansion in a new book.
Crystal’s upcoming memoir, “Only Say Good Things: Surviving Playboy and Finding Myself,” will detail her relationship with Hefner over the years.
A description of the book said it gives a “raw and unflinching look at the objectification and misogyny of the Playboy mansion,” sharing Hefner’s “strict rules on everything from their looks to curfew.”
Crystal posted about the book’s release on Instagram, writing, “So many emotions with this,” and telling a fan she has “mixed feelings [about the release]. It’s so honest. It’s so raw.but it’s the truth. So long as I stand [in] my truth I am good.”
Crystal and Hefner began their relationship when she was 21 years old. They got engaged in 2010 — Crystal was 25 and Hefner was 85. They briefly split, but ultimately wed in 2012 and were together until his death in 2017.
“My relationship and marriage to Hugh Hefner was a very complicated one,” she told the Daily Mail. “It was one where, no matter how I was treated, I always felt like I had to protect him, which is why I have not shared my story until now.”
Crystal continued, “Since his passing, I have had to do a lot of self-discovery. I have had to find out who I am without it being dictated to me. I have had to not only find my voice, but I also had to learn how to use that voice. My book is a testament to the power of time, processing all that I have been through and embracing my truth.”
Part of that self-discovery has included turning her back on plastic surgery and having her breast implants removed, as well as dropping the glamorous look for a more casual style.
“I think now I am more myself, which is the more down-to-earth, minimal makeup, that is where I feel the most comfortable,” Crystal told The Sunday Telegraph.
Movieguide® previously reported on Crystal’s embrace of a more modest style:
Crystal Hefner, Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner’s third wife, is opening up about her decision to turn away from her Playboy persona and start living a more “authentic” life.
“Over five years, my account has shifted from not always safe for work posts to my REAL safe for work life,” Hefner shared on her Instagram account. “The real me. I was living for other people before, to make others happy, suffering internally in the process.”
“As most of you know, I grew my following during my ‘Playboy’ years,” she continued. “Certain photos grow followings fast. In short, sex sells. I don’t know whether I felt empowered by dressing scantily clad, showing cleavage, etc …or if I just felt it was expected of me or what… but now I can confidently and 100% proudly say, modesty is what empowers me these days, and because it feels so much better internally, it will probably be this way for the rest of my life.”
Hefner shared that she has “removed everything fake from my body” and deleted her old photos, which has helped her feel more like herself.
