Danica McKellar Encourages Fans to Put Screens Down

Great American Family actress Danica McKellar recently encouraged the Great American Community to spend less time on screens.

She began her message by explaining how, too often, our potential falls short, and we waste our day on screen time.

“We all have so much potential to be so productive and do healthy things for ourselves and get our work done, but we end up finding ourselves, you know, scrolling a lot,” she said.

She then explained a mindset she uses to shift her focus and make the most of her day.

“Imagine that there is a documentary being made about your life, and there are cameras on you. What would it look like if someone else were watching you have your day today? It’s kind of a strange thought, but for me, it’s really useful because it’s like, oh that’s right! Well, what if there were a documentary being made, what would today be? What would I do to make myself proud of how I spent this day?”

“Now that doesn’t mean you have to be super productive…this can involve self-care, but there’s a difference between self-care and procrastination,” she added.

The WONDER YEARS actress also explained that spending your day in a way you’re proud of is even more important than being productive.

“It’s not just about productivity, it’s also about things that, later on you’d say, ‘Yeah, I’m glad I spent my day doing that. That was a good thing.’ How can I make this a day that I am proud of? And proud even to show to a whole camera crew if there were a documentary being made.’”

Danica ended her video with a humorous comment.

“Have a wonderful rest of your day. I’ll be watching! I’m kidding, I’m not actually making a documentary about your life, or am I?”

One thing she’s committed to spending time on is reading her Bible. In a New Year’s post, McKellar wrote, “continuing my faith journey, this year I’ll be reading the Bible all the way through for the second time, using @thebiblerecap.”

“For me, reading the Bible, I just have to say, I felt so comforted,” the actress explained. “And oddly so, even during the chapters like getting through Job, you know, and the poor guy, he’s suffering and his friends are like, ‘Yeah, well, it’s probably your fault. It’s something you did.’”

Movieguide® previously reported:

Danica McKellar says her self-challenge to finish reading the Bible in one year helped her get “to know God better.”

The WONDER YEARS star completed her 2023 goal of reading the Bible and is on “round two right now.”

“It’s just doing something regularly that’s always a challenge, right?” she explained while walking the red carpet at this year’s Movieguide® Awards. “Because you get busy. And my life doesn’t have a regular schedule to it, doing movies and then not doing movies, but I found that if I did just two sessions a day for a little while, I could catch up, like after shooting a movie. That’s the most challenging.”

McKellar added, “The most rewarding thing is just getting to know God better and understanding some of the patterns and going, ‘Oh, this theme of ego versus humility’ is really strong through the whole story. Maybe we should pay attention to that.”
