Darius Rucker Highlights Children While Accepting Hollywood Star: ‘Everything to Me’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Country star Darius Rucker celebrated his children while receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“Carri, Dani and Jack are my heart, they’re my soul,” Rucker said while accepting the honor. “They’re everything to me and everything I do is for them. It’s been amazing the be your father.”
“This is stuff you don’t even dream about when you’re from South Carolina,” he added of the honor, per GMA. “You know, struggling, growing up, and just wanting to be a singer — that’s all I ever wanted to be was a singer. But you never dream that this stuff is going to happen.”
“As great as all this stuff is, it’s not as cool as being your dad, and I really mean that,” Rucker continued, speaking to his kids. “I love you guys so much.”
Although the singer continued with his career while his kids were growing up, the country singer adjusted his touring schedule to always make room for quality time with them.
“The way we tour is great,” he said. “We only tour on the weekend, so it’s three days a week and the other four days [I’m] pretty much home, so that makes it a lot easier.”
“When phones and FaceTime came into play, it made it a lot easier,” Rucker added. “[I] just try to call every day.”
Rucker’s ability to stay in touch despite being physically apart will now play an even larger role as his youngest, Jack, recently moved to New York for college, making the singer an empty nester.
“I’m scared. I hope I don’t have too much fun,” Rucker joked with PEOPLE earlier this year. “But you’re just so proud of your kids and reaching those milestones. I better spend time playing a lot of golf and traveling around and probably traveling to the city that they’re at so I can see them.”
It is inspiring that even when Rucker is receiving the award of a lifetime, he is focused on his family. While music and his career are important to him, family clearly comes first. Hopefully, this will encourage younger country musicians to follow Rucker’s example and value their families over their careers.
Movieguide® previously reported on Rucker:
Country stars Darius Rucker and Old Dominion frontman Matthew Ramsey are some of the many musicians who are expressing concern over the growing capabilities of AI technology.
Rucker called the tech “scary,” saying, “I don’t want to wake up one day and have a robot standing over me. It’s scary, but technology can be that way.”
However, the country singer isn’t worried about how AI will affect his own music.
“If people were to use it and everything for songwriting… technology is just way in front of me. So I don’t think about those things, I only keep doing things the way I do it, and write songs the way I write songs and let the chips fall where they may,” Rucker explained.
