Saints QB Derek Carr Says World Won’t Satisfy: ‘It is All Nothing’ Without Christ
By Movieguide® Contributor
New Orleans Saints quarterback and four-time Pro Bowler Derek Carr reflected on the importance of seeking God and not chasing the things of this world.
“I’ve seen teammates baptized in my hands. I’ve seen grown men cry in my hands and on my shoulder. I’ve seen all of these things,” he said in a video posted by Christhlete. “These guys have everything the world can offer them, and they sit there, and they weep to me because it’s not enough.”
“You can keep chasing your dream, you can keep chasing your job, the money, the fame, you can chase it all you want, but without the blood of Christ inside of you, it is all nothing,” he explained.
Carr referenced Mark 8:36-37, which reads, “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”
The quarterback lives by example, declaring that God “is the reason I play football.”
“He has given me this special talent and I want to use it to glorify Him,” Carr added. “I am grateful for the opportunity to further His kingdom by sharing my faith on and off the football field. Speaking at churches, preaching to a large crowd is something I am very passionate about. Every year, I attend services and speak the message of Love, Hope and Peace.”
“Football is God’s gift to me and I am thankful He chose me to be the steward of this gift. Being a quarterback is what I do but it does not define who I am,” he continued. “I am first and foremost a follower of Jesus Christ. Each time I step out on the field, I play my heart out for the Lord. My Faith keeps me centered, and I look forward to what God has in store for me on my journey through life.”
Carr trusts God’s promise found in Jeremiah 29:11, which says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.'”
Movieguide® previously reported on the quarterback:
Derek Carr is the face of the Las Vegas Raiders, but he doesn’t let that distract him from the most crucial thing in his life, his faith in God.
As the NFL quarterback enters his ninth season in professional football, the 3-time Pro Bowler discussed his journey with Tauren Wells, host of “The High Note” podcast.
Carr said that at one point, he would’ve hung up the jersey if God called him into ministry; but he realized that he has a current ministry on the field.
“It was in that moment where I think the Lord knew that my heart was His, and I’ve been able to minister to thousands of people,” Carr said. “I’ve been in stadiums — 15,000, 18,000 people — preaching the Gospel and watching thousands of people get saved. I’ve seen healings take place. I’ve seen people set free. I’ve seen marriages reunite. I’ve seen kids come back home. All while playing football.”
