Sadie Robertson Huff revealed that Uncle Si was not originally part of the DUCK DYNASTY show but made his way into the mix when the filming crew realized how funny he was.
“We just grew up so country and I just remember Uncle Si was so weird. And then, when the show happened, because here’s the thing, you don’t get a reality TV show unless you’re weird. You see, you gotta look around at the other reality TV stars and you gotta realize the company you’re in, everyone is a little off, okay, and I’m saying we are too. But that’s how we grew up and so we knew, my mom, when she would watch reality TV, she was like, ‘Willie, your family has potential for this, like, y’all are a little different.’ And, Uncle Si was not in the mix of characters. Like, he was not one of the people because again, like, he was crazy but didn’t realize that crazy was gonna be so funny, like, on TV,” Huff recalled.

“And, they came down to film and Uncle Si, I think, did like one little scene and everyone was like, why isn’t he in this? Like, he’s hilarious,” she continued. “Because, again, kind of the more extreme you are, on reality TV, like the better. And you don’t have to ask him to be extreme, he just is extreme. And it’s just funny to see how he has really just exploded.”
Uncle Si proved to be such a popular character that when the news broke that DUCK DYNASTY was receiving a revival, one of the main questions was whether he would be returning to camera. Korie Robertson was the one to break the good news.
“Is Uncle Si gonna be on the show?” Korie asked, before answering, “Yes. You will see Uncle Si on the show. So much has changed. We’ve got a lot to catch people up on.”
But Uncle Si is not just a funny character. He has a lot of wisdom that he is happy to share across the internet. In 2024, for example, he was a guest on Huff’s podcast where he discussed what it takes to have a healthy marriage.
“You’re going to have to put a lot of work involved in this,” he said. “There’re a lot of things that you’re going to have to overlook and just accept, you know? I guess the best way to say [it is] you got to grow together.”
