Dolly Parton Wants To ‘Touch A Few Hearts’ With ‘Rockstar’ Album

Dolly Parton is opening up about her upcoming rock album, “Rockstar,” including the inspiration behind popular single “World on Fire.”
“I’ve been rocking since the day I was born,” Parton said of her switch in genre during a conversation on Southern Living’s “Biscuits & Jam” podcast. “I still got rock ‘n’ roll down in my country soul.”
On “Rockstar,” the country legend collaborates with musicians like Stevie Nicks, Paul McCartney, Sheryl Crow and many others on hit classic rock songs.
Parton also shared what inspired “World on Fire.”
“I was thinking that my heart was heavy,” she explained. “And I’d just been watching everything that’s going on and just how we don’t seem to be trying to do anything about it…We let stuff like [politics] get more in the way of human decency and kindness and values and all the stuff that we used to seem to have at least a notion about, and now it seems like we’re just drifting.”
Parton said she wrote the song to “just throw a light” on her concerns about the state of the world that “might change a few minds and touch a few hearts.”
The singer spoke further about the song’s inspiration in an interview with The Independent.
“I was just seeing the world go down the tube, and nobody was even trying to do better,” she said. “And the only way I know how to fight back is in my songs. So I was just trying to throw a bright light on a very dark subject.”
“Rockstar” is set to be one of Parton’s biggest albums yet, and she’s celebrating its release with a series of first-listen fan events at movie theaters around the country.
“I am excited to know that my fans around the world will be able to come together and be the first to hear a sneak peek of my Rockstar album,” Parton said in a press release. “I am so proud of this music, and I am humbled by all the wonderful artists who joined me. I cannot wait for people to hear it!”
Movieguide® previously reported on Parton’s upcoming duet with Kid Rock and her thoughts on cancel culture:
Dolly Parton is hitting back at “cancel culture” as she defends her new duet with Kid Rock.
“Somebody was talking to me the other day, ‘How could you do this [song] with Kid?’” she said of their upcoming song, “Either Or.” “I said, ‘Hey, just because I love you don’t mean I don’t love Kid Rock. Just because I love Kid Rock don’t mean I don’t love you.’ I don’t condemn or criticize. I just accept and love.”
Parton continued, “I love everybody. I don’t criticize, nor I don’t condone nor condemn. I just accept them. But anyhow, just because I love you don’t mean I don’t love Kid Rock in that God way.”
