Erin and Ben Napier just shared their pitch for a show that would put a different twist on their home design expertise.

“I am at work, it’s demo day, and it is so, so hot and so sweaty,” Erin said in a recent Instagram video. “And I was thinking how fun it would be if we also made a show where Ben and I sit in a dark movie theater like MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER [3000].”

Ben added, “But instead of sci-fi movies, we watch old Nancy Meyers movies, like [THE] PARENT TRAP.”

Erin explained that the show would be “about the houses and the set design and why these characters live in these rooms and these houses and what it says about the character” and shared that analyzing the houses they see in movies is the couple’s “obsession in real life.”

Ben agreed, saying their love of fictional homes in TV and movies is “the reason that HOME TOWN exists.”

“Now, what if we just made a show about it that you could watch?” Erin asked, adding “HGTV has absolutely not said they want to make this show.”

Ben called the couple’s video “crowd-sourcing” to see if viewers would be interested in watching this hypothetical show, with Erin adding, “Don’t you think we should pitch that?”

Fans gave the couple an enthusiastic “yes,” with one writing, “More than in. Obsessed with this. Yes please!!” Another commented, “Yes! Title should be Home Movies.”

It wouldn’t be the only HGTV show the couple have created for the network. In addition to HOME TOWN, the Napiers also created and starred in spin-offs HOME TOWN TAKEOVER and HOME TOWN KICKSTART.

The Napiers’ pitch for a new show could also replace one of the many shows HGTV has canceled over the past few weeks. BARGAIN BLOCK, MARRIED TO REAL ESTATE and FARMHOUSE FIXER have all been axed.

“Television has been so incredibly fun for us,” FARMHOUSE FIXER’s Jonathan Knight wrote in an Instagram post. “We are so proud of what we created together and look forward to sharing what’s next for us.”

BARGAIN BLOCK’s Keith Bynum also posted about his show’s cancellation on social media, writing, “Though you may not be seeing us for much longer on HGTV, we’re excited that we’ve built such an amazing base of followers and we’re very excited about the future.”

HGTV fans are sad to see some of their favorite home renovation series go, but the Napiers’ recent pitch has many excited about what might replace the canceled shows.
