Ex-MANDALORIAN Star Gina Carano Files Lawsuit Against Disney, Lucasfilm

Actress Gina Carano, who was fired from THE MANDALORIAN in 2021 for voicing her opinion on Twitter, now X, is now suing Disney and Lucasfilm for wrongful termination and infringing on her First Amendment rights.
“After my 20 years of building a career from scratch, and during the regime of former Disney CEO Bob Chapek, Lucasfilm made this statement on Twitter terminating me from THE MANDALORIAN: ‘Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm & there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural & religious identities are abhorrent & unacceptable,’” Carano wrote in a lengthy X post about the lawsuit.
“Nothing could be further from the truth,” her post continued. “The truth is I was being hunted down from everything I posted to every post I liked because I was not in line with the acceptable narrative at the time.”
“The thing is I never even used aggressive language,” Carano added. “I shared thought provoking quotes, pictures, memes & occasionally I used my own words, not with aggression but with respect & the occasional comedy to keep the mood light in dark times.”
Nevertheless, Carano was fired from her position on the show after noting how the country’s polarization could lead to real consequences in the future. However, because she was defending right-wing positions instead of the left, Disney fired her for her remarks.
The actress is now seeking recompense for the destruction of her character, suing Disney and Lucasfilm for $75,000 and a forced recast onto the show.
“I would love to pick up where I left off & continue my journey of creating & participating in story-telling, which is my utmost passion & everything I worked so hard for,” Carano said. “It has been difficult to move forward with the lies & labels stuck on me, backed & encouraged by the most powerful entertainment company in the world.”
Carano’s legal battle will be largely funded by X owner Elon Musk, who previously stated that his company would defend any person fired for sharing their opinions on his site.
“To my surprise, a few months ago I received an email from a lawyer who had been hired by X to look into my story and many others. Turns out after sending them as much information as I could gather these past few months, my now lawyers & X believe whole-heartedly in my case & are moving forward,” the actress wrote.
“As a sign of X Corp.’s commitment to free speech, we’re proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano’s lawsuit, empowering her to seek vindication of her free speech rights on X and the ability to work without bullying, harassment, or discrimination,” added Joe Benarroch, head of business operations at X.
The lawsuit will be heard by a court in California.

“When I wouldn’t hashtag trans rights, I wouldn’t put my pronouns and like they kept on it, pressuring, and finally, I just said, ‘I’m not doing this,’” Carano told Tucker Carlson of Fox News. “I didn’t even know what people were talking about. I was just not clued into the pronouns thing, which apparently has been happening for like seven, eight years now, right?”
After pressure from Lucasfilms and Disney to adhere to their LGBTQ+ agenda, Carano said that her opinions on mask mandates and lockdowns are what pushed the company over the edge.
“I was speaking out about lockdowns, masks, vaccinations and pronouns way before anybody was even saying a word about it. I was a little bit ahead. I’m sure if I would have done that now it wouldn’t have been a big deal,” Carano said. “But I was talking about this when nobody else was talking about it, especially nobody else in my industry.”
