Fellowship of Christian Athletes Event Shares the Gospel in Buffalo Bills Stadium

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) partnered with Buffalo Bills players and staff in a Fields of Faith event to bring the Gospel to 1,275 guests, including 630 student-athletes.

“This event was an amazing celebration of 252 high school and middle school athletes from the region who completed FCA’s three-month discipleship program, FCA Training Camp,” said FCA Buffalo Director, Jake Hannon. “For the program, each student was challenged to read 2,318 Scripture verses from 65 chapters of the Bible. This event was an opportunity to celebrate this accomplishment and give the student-athletes the opportunity to invite a non-FCA teammate to come to the stadium to hear the Gospel.”

55 students gave their life to Christ as a result of the event.

The gathering was part of the FCA’s Fields of Faith: a student led event where student-athletes “invite, pray for, share with, and challenge their peers to read the Bible and follow Jesus Christ.” Fields of Faith organizers believe that an athletic field provides a neutral rally point for a community of believers.

“Fields of Faith helps entire communities experience God’s saving grace and gain the knowledge that lives can be transformed through Jesus while encouraging them to get into the habit of reading God’s word,” FCA president and CEO, Shane Williamson said. “It’s a powerful event that God is using to reach local campuses and bring the next generation to Himself.”

Occurred nationwide since 2002, Fields of Faith has grown to reach nearly 200,000 people every year. This Fields of Faith event was notable as it was the first one hosted inside of an NFL stadium. Buffalo Bills players Von Miller, Damar Hamlin and Dawson Knox, as well as Bills head athletic trainer, Nate Breske partnered with FCA leadership to run the event.

“This event was a very special event as it was the first ever FCA Fields of Faith event in an NFL stadium,” Hannon said. “The students got to go onto the turf to play with friends, eat Chick-fil-A, and get autographs from the Bills players.”

“We then gave our Gospel message, gave out some awards, and watched some amazing videos and recaps of the Training Camp. At the end of the night, we had several student-athletes give their lives to Christ for the first time, and many more recommit to the Gospel,” he continued.

Movieguide® previously reported on the FCA:

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes launched a new YouTube series where professional Christian athletes come together to talk about the Lord.

The first episode of HUDDLE UP dropped last Friday and featured retired NFL tight end Benjamin Watson, Los Angeles Rams’ receiver Brandin Cooks, retired NFL quarterback Luke McGown, and the St. Louis Cardinals all-star MLB pitcher Adam Wainwright.

Watson moderated the episode where the men talked about using this unexpected downtime to strengthen their relationships with the Lord and with their families.

“As Christians, we are called to be the light,” said Wainwright. “In this time, there is a lot of negativity around. This is a time that we can spend encouraging others to make us look different.”
