For KING + COUNTRY Frontman’s Son Meets Favorite Singer (And It’s Not His Dad)
By Movieguide® Contributor
Seven-year-old Leo, son of For KING + COUNTRY frontman Luke Smallbone, just got to meet his favorite singer, and he couldn’t be more excited.
In a video posted to Instagram, Leo was asked, “Who are you excited to see tonight?” “Lauren Daigle,” the boy replied with a big smile while sitting in a car.
Later while on the red carpet, someone asked him, “What is the most exciting thing about tonight, Leo?” “The meeting of Lauren Daigle,” Leo replied.
“This is my second time seeing her,” he later told a golf cart driver at a recent awards show event.
Finally, the moment arrived, and Leo shook Daigle’s hand on the red carpet.
“Leo, so good to see you!” she said. “I really wanted to see you,” he told her. When Daigle asked him why, he responded, “Because I love you as a friend!” After telling her how he loves her songs, Leo hugged Daigle.
Daigle commented on the Instagram video, “My absolute favorite moment of the night!!! ❤️❤️”
Another person commented, “The world is not ready for this level of adorable.”
Leo is a living miracle. He almost died when he was a baby, which his mom, Courtney Smallbone, opened up about in a blog post.
After laying him down for a nap, she said, “I find him face down, gray, cold, and with blood on his face,” she recounted. “A million things seem to run through my mind, and I scream, ‘No, No, No, No!! I’m NOT burying my child!’”
After calling 911, she shared, “My hands fell off Leo, and I said in a whisper, ‘Jesus, only you can do this. Only you can bring back my baby.’ Suddenly, Leo’s chest expanded, his eyes started twinkling and he gave out the most glorious cry!”
Leo survived, and it was discovered he had sagittal craniosynostosis which occurs when the bones of the skull fuse together too early. His condition was corrected with surgery.
Today, Leo is 7 and is just one of the many miracles that the Smallbone family has experienced.
Luke’s family’s story is told in the film UNSUNG HERO. He previously shared how his family’s struggles have only brought them closer together. “What I realized about being in a family, in a marriage, is, when resolved conflict takes place, it breeds a stronger relationship, it breeds a stronger friendship.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Daigle:
Christian artist Lauren Daigle and THE GREATEST SHOWMAN singer Loren Allred join forces on AMERICA’S GOT TALENT to sing a mash-up of Daigle’s “Thank God I Do” and “You Say.”
When the performance was over, the two received a standing ovation and were asked by show host Terry Crews what it takes to reach the top.
“I would say it takes persistence, it takes dedication, it takes working on your craft and knowing how to serve it well,” Daigle said. “The most important thing is every person, every contestant, was made for a unique purpose. What is that message that you’re going to bring into the world? What is it that you’re going to share? What gift are you going to be able to give? That’s the most important thing. You know a talent is great, but having a message and a purpose is something well beyond.”
