Fox Sports Films to Air Documentary on Christian NFL Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa

Outspoken Christian and NFL quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is getting his own documentary from Fox Sports called TUA.

“I’m excited about this film for a variety of reasons, but mainly because it represents the deep love and appreciation that I have for my culture, my faith and, more importantly, my family,” said Tagovailoa. “I am extremely proud of this project and the efforts it took to get here. I look forward to sharing it with everyone.”

Variety exclusively reported that the new movie is part of Fox’s MAGNIFY series.

Audiences will get a glimpse into the past year of the former Alabama quarterback’s life, which shows how he healed from a career-threatening injury on the heels of the 2020 NFL Draft. Tagovailoa was drafted by the Miami Dolphins earlier this year.

The documentary also shows the athlete’s journey from his childhood in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, to his life today.

Tagovailoa’s parents along with Alabama football coach Nick Saban, the team’s orthopedic surgeon Dr. Lyle Cain were interviewed for the documentary.

Former NFL quarterbacks Trent Dilfer and Steve Young also share perspectives in the documentary.

“Tua is a beloved young star with an incredible story,” said Charlie Dixon, executive vice president of content at Fox Sports. “We like to say, ‘Fox is Football’, and since it’s in our DNA, that means providing the deepest insight into the sport both on and off the field. The film’s level of access and pure emotion provides a new level of appreciation for his journey.”

TUA is set to debut on Fox on September 6 at 4 p.m. ET, followed by an eight-episode digital series called TUA TALKS in the coming weeks on the Fox Sports app.

Though his football skills caught the attention of fans nationwide, Tagovailoa continually pointed back to his faith for his success.

Back in 2018, the former Alabama quarterback previously said he prayed the whole time while playing in the CFP National Championship game.

“I was praying,” Tagovailoa said. “I was speaking in tongues. It kept me calm.”

He continued, “I would say my poise comes from my faith. I just pray for peace.”
