GAF to Premiere 8 New Movies This Month
By Movieguide® Contributor
The Great American Family network will air eight new movies within the next month, beginning on August 5, as part of the first “Great American Summer.”
“Summer is more than sunshine, adventure and getting a tan. It’s also a time for carefree, heartfelt movies,” the network said in a statement.
Bill Abbott, CEO of Great American Media, told Christian Headlines that three of the movies are Pure Flix originals, following the company’s recent merger with Pure Flix.
“Right away, we want to capitalize on the ability to have content across both platforms,” Abbott said. “… [But] we want to have content that’s differentiated across both platforms, so the experience isn’t exactly a mirror image of one another.”
The Great American Summer lineup includes:
1. ROMANCE AT THE VINEYARD: “When it looks as though Allee’s family vineyard, Merado, is at stake, she is forced to pair with a new friend in an effort to avoid selling the property. What she doesn’t know is that her newfound partner works for the corporate wine chain aiming to buy the property.” Premieres August 5.
2. LOVE ON REPEAT: “Recently split from her ‘perfect boyfriend,” Amber (Jen Lilley) is unfilled in her job and single status. When Amber starts re-living the same day over and over again, she realizes she is stuck in limbo and must finally decide what it will take to make her truly happy.” LOVE ON REPEAT premiers Monday, August 7.
3. UNLIKELY ANGEL: “The movie is about Janie (Jillian Murray), workaholic who is falling apart at the thought of becoming a first-time mom. She whispers a small prayer for help and it’s answered in a very unlikely way when an angel intervenes and fast forwards her life. Janie is lucky enough to be given a second chance, but will she change before it’s too late?” The Pure Flix original will premiere on cable TV Saturday, August 12.
4. WEDDING CAKE DREAMS: “As a young girl, Carrie Watson (Donna Benedicto) places a piece of wedding cake under her pillow when her mother tells her about the tradition that doing so will ensure you dream of your future true love. Fast forward two decades, and Carrie is shocked to discover the man from her dream at her younger sister’s wedding.” Premieres Monday, August 14.
5. SUMMERTIME SOULMATES: “A conventional curator facing financial crises (Jenna Michno) works with an avant-garde artist (Christian Howard) to develop an unconventional exhibit.” Premieres Saturday, August 19.
6. STRONG FATHERS, STRONG DAUGHTERS: This movie is inspired by the best-selling book “Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters,” by Dr. Meg Meeker. “Being a parent is one of God’s greatest callings, but that responsibility can be overwhelming. That is why Dr. Meeker wrote her book and why it inspired the new Pure Flix Original movie. The essential challenges of parenting are so widely relatable and the encouragement found in biblical parenting refers to are undeniable.” A Pure Flix original, this movie will premiere on cable TV Monday, August 21.
7. DREAM WEDDING: Sisters Kate (Rebecca Dalton) and Megan (Christa Taylor Brown) “attend their local wedding fair [where] they jokingly enter a dream wedding package even though they are not getting married.” Surprisingly, “the sisters win and now must put on a show or be mortified by their champagne decisions.” Premieres Saturday, August 26.
8. LEARNING TO LOVE: “Harry (Philip Boyd) and his two daughters lost their faith and have struggled to connect since losing their mom. But when they are faced with the prospect of a new nanny, they are pleasantly surprised by the arrival Steph (Ina Barrón) who floods their home and hearts with warmth, positivity and faith.” A Pure Flix original, movie will premiere on cable TV Saturday, September 2.
Movieguide® previously reported on GAF’s merger with Pure Flix:
“It’s a merger of like minded missions,” Abbott said of the merge, which took place on May 11, 2023. “The reality of both services is that they’ll be impacted by each other. I think the Great American family will benefit from the strong faith components that Pure Flix has done so well over the years, and Great American Pure Flix, we could call it, will be the beneficiary of the lighter fare that has done so well on Great American family.”
“The vision of being the ultimate destination for viewers in the faith and family space is our objective and we believe will happen in the next three, five years,” he added.
