GCU Basketball Player Urges Christians ‘Bring Other People to Light’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Grand Canyon University basketball player Gabe McGlothan is encouraging people to “let your light shine.”

“If all the lights stayed in the church, then we’re not bringing light to anywhere dark,” he said via Christhlete. “And so sometimes, when you do find yourself in those situations — obviously don’t search them out. Don’t look for just where evil is, [but] don’t be afraid to be in the dark sometimes. Let your light shine even more so, so you can bring other people to light.”

McGlothan often talks about his faith, sharing how following God’s plan has blessed him.

“My plan was, you know, to play D-I basketball, but I never thought it’d be this big of a blessing, and God poured into that,” he told SportsSpectrum. “I’m so trusting of what God’s done with my story already. Even if it goes good, if it goes bad, I’ll rock with my man Jesus Christ until the end of time. And so, wherever He places my feet, I’ll follow it.”

The basketball player also posts messages of faith on Instagram.

“It’s March, the month in the basketball world where anything can happen. Miracles, Magic, and Madness,” McGlothan wrote in a recent post. “It’s all about trusting your work, trusting your team, trusting your coaches, but most importantly and above all else – trusting God.”

He continued, “Trusting that the Lord has a plan for you. Trusting that God has led you all the way up to this moment. Trusting that we serve a BIG God and to not take control over the miracles that only He can perform. Trusting in what Jesus did for us on the Cross. Trusting the results. All that trust is tied together, you can’t have one without the other. Trusting God is trusting everything about God.”

McGlothan explained that “the peace of God overcomes” any anxiety you might feel.

“Simply knowing you have the best teammate you could ever have on your team. That confidence that stems only from the limitless source, the Lord Himself. Knowing that during any season, God is the great provider,” he wrote. “Welcome to trusting season, but believers know that it’s trusting season, every season; so March is nothing new. Keep trusting, keep the Faith. Amen.”
