How God Prepared Candace Cameron Bure to Influence Entertainment for Christ

When her kids were young, Candace Cameron Bure took some time away from acting to raise them. But God had an even bigger plan for her during that period.

“That was the season that God grew me as a woman in my faith with Him, grew my relationship in the Lord with Him because I had the time when the kids were in school. I had time when the kids were napping to now go buy a Priscilla Shirer Bible study and study the word of God,” Bure said. “And then, when I eventually came back into the industry in my early thirties and truly had a moment of like, ‘Oh, God I’m coming back, but you just prepared me. I have a whole different perspective. I have new eyes as to why I’m going back into the industry.'”

Bure has certainly been a force for God since she returned to the industry. After spending years with Hallmark, she joined Great American Family during its launch to become its chief content officer, helping steward the company towards a faith focus.

“[I am] so happy at Great American Family, and I absolutely love working with the network,” Bure said. “I have an executive position at the network, and I’m helping build this network from the ground up…I’m proud of all the things that we’ve done.”

Bure’s impact is especially felt during the Christmas season during Great American Christmas. Though most movies created for this time are not explicitly Christian, they almost always include Christian elements and hint towards the true meaning of the season: Christ’s birth. Having worked on Christmas movies for over a decade, Bure’s expertise is crucial when creating these movies.

“As I’ve shifted my career [I have] been able to insert more of a faith-focus narrative in some of the movies. I always want to nod to what the real reason for the season is as a person of faith,” Bure explained.

“I think that has been very important to me, and it doesn’t have to be over the top, but let’s at least, while we’re looking for love on the farm…let’s recognize that we celebrate Christmas because Jesus came to the world and was the Savior of the world, you know, born a baby on Earth and lived the perfect life and willingly sacrificed himself so that we can all be reconciled to God,” she added. “Now I might not say all of that in the movie, but I want to just recognize what Christmas is all about in that sense.”
