Good News for Families: Moral Content Succeeds at the Box Office
By Movieguide® Contributor
As theatrical releases return to pre-pandemic levels, movies with biblical morality have risen to the top.
CREED III, ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA and JESUS REVOLUTION were all in the top 5 of last week’s domestic box office.
Movieguide®’s reviews of CREED III and QUANTUMANIA state that both movies express “strong moral worldviews,” with CREED III also showing “light redemptive moments about forgiveness, family, protecting family, and choosing to help others instead of yourself.”
QUANTUMANIA also stresses “family and includes a plot where the hero, with help from his fiancée and her parents must save his daughter and an oppressed group of other people.”
JESUS REVOLUTION expresses an “extremely Christian worldview… with many sermons, presentations and expressions of the Gospel, scenes of baptism, and very strong biblical references,” according to the Movieguide® review.
The popularity of these types of movies is promising for Christians as Hollywood producers tend to follow the money. Because movies with strong moral values succeed, producers will likely continue to make movies with these kinds of themes because they draw a large audience.
As the rate of movies released returns to normal, audiences will have a greater opportunity to show moviemakers the kind of content they desire. For the past three years, studios have avoided releasing blockbuster hits close to each other to maximize profits. This practice has left audiences with little choice, not to mention crippled an industry that heavily relies on momentum.
Audience choice will soon return to normal, with blockbuster hits releasing every week or two, especially in summer.
It is now more important than ever to support morally strong movies, as the type of movies that succeed in the upcoming months could set the industry standards for years to come.
