Got Goals? NFL Star Explains How to Stay Committed
By Movieguide® Contributor
Tim Tebow discussed the difference between dreams and goals and shared how our convictions allow us to push through difficulties to reach our ambitions.
“I believe there’s a difference between dreams and goals,” the former NFL star said. “Unfortunately there have been many times I’ve gone to sleep dreaming about ‘what if’ and woken up and done nothing about it because I was listening to my emotions instead of remembering my convictions.”
“True convictions help us take action when it gets hard. Trusted community helps us stay accountable when we need help,” he added.”
Tebow has long been a proponent of chasing goals and following convictions. He believes that these are uniquely placed on our hearts as a way for the Lord to guide our paths. In the past, Tebow has explained how goals and convictions point toward our passions — things that we care the most about.
“Passion actually comes from a 12-century Latin word meaning to suffer, and it comes from the Passion of the Christ — that He cared so much for humanity He was willing to suffer for it,” Tebow said. “So when you say you’re passionate about something, what you’re saying is I will do it anyways even if I know I’m going to suffer… That’s not excitement, that’s not motivation, that’s not hype — that’s passion.”

“I think it’s a question most people are asking: What is my purpose in life? It’s a question most people are wondering about, trying to figure out,” Tebow told Relevant in December. “They want to know how to do it, whether they can do it, and even if they have a purpose at all. These are the bigger questions we ask: Why am I here? What am I supposed to do while I’m here? Can I actually make a difference?”
“I want to be able to help bring people to God’s word so that they can see scripture answering these questions,” Tebow continued. “Yes, you have a purpose. Your life is important. Your life is valuable. Your life has meaning, and there are good works for you to do.”
