Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson Says These Verses Keep Him Humble

Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson shared two verses he lives by and explained how they keep him humble.

“I always like to go by this Scripture, Luke 12:48: ‘to much is given, much is required,'” Tomlinson shared in a video from Christhlete. “It’s a very powerful Scripture, you see, because at the time when I was a young man, I didn’t have much, and now I find myself obviously with so much.”

He quoted Matthew 19:23, explaining, “The Bible says it’s harder for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven than the poor man.”

“And I thought about that a lot. I wonder what it is. Because I think when you have so much, you forget about the values, you know, the foundation that’s there a lot of the times,” Tomlinson added.

“So I think that’s why it says it’s hard for a rich man to enter because we often forget about that,” he continued. “And so that’s a very powerful scripture that I like to live by.”

He holds onto those verses so that he stays humble.

“It keeps me humble and keeps me wanting to give more and more and give back to people who don’t have the opportunity that I have,” he explained. “Maybe one day, the younger kids, if I can help someone, they may have the opportunity that I’ve had. So that’s one scripture I want to share with you that I go by a lot.”

“A five-time Pro Bowl choice, Tomlinson’s career stats include 13,684 yards rushing (5th all-time) on 3,174 carries and 624 receptions for 4,772 yards and 17 touchdowns. His 145 career rushing touchdowns ranks 2nd in the NFL’s record book and his 163 total touchdowns rank third behind Jerry Rice (208) and Emmitt Smith (175). His 18,456 yards from scrimmage are 5th all-time,” the Pro Football Hall of Fame recorded.

He was a fifth overall pick in the 2001 draft for the San Diego Chargers.

“His presence was part of something of an overhaul of their offense, which included hiring former Washington Redskins head coach Norv Turner as their offensive coordinator, acquiring Doug Flutie as their new QB and drafting another QB by the name of Drew Brees,” wrote Pro Football History.

He later signed with the New York Jets before leaving the NFL a few seasons later.

Throughout his life and career, Tomlinson has relied on his faith.

“I was deeply influenced by my mom’s faith,” he told the Christian Post. “I grew up in church, and over time, my own faith grew. Nobody’s road is straight, and in those difficult times, that’s when we need God. We seek Him, we yearn for Him. We need that foundation, we need His guidance and presence in our lives. I thank God, because I’ve been through so much; my faith has been tested. But thanks to Him, I’m still standing.”
