Hallmark Releases Countdown to Christmas Movie Slate

By Allyson Vannatta, Senior Writer

Hallmark released their Countdown to Christmas movie line-up, with many titles featuring returning stars like Candance Cameron Bure, Sarah Drew, Bethany Joy Lenz, and Tamera Mowry-Housley.

40 all-new movies are expected to hit the small screen soon as the network will begin airing holiday-themed movies on October 23 this year.

PEOPLE outlined the full slate of new movies with actors and descriptions of each title.

Bure can be seen in IF I ONLY HAD CHRISTMAS on Nov. 29, Drew stars in CHRISTMAS IN VIENNA on Nov. 15, Lenz is featured in FIVE STAR CHRISTMAS on Nov. 26, and Mowry-Housley is in CHRISTMAS COMES TWICE on Dec. 13.

Movieguide® hasn’t seen or reviewed any of these upcoming movies yet, so we can’t comment on the quality or acceptability, but we’re looking forward to letting you know our thoughts soon!

Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas is an event many look forward to each year.

In fact, last year, Hallmark celebrated 10 years of the beloved event.

In an interview, Michelle Vicary, executive vice president of Programming & Publicity for Crown Media Family Networks said, “What we built in holiday entertainment on television 10 years ago has grown into a cultural phenomenon beloved by tens of millions of people, and it cannot be copied.”

Several of the network’s holiday movies were nominated for Movieguide® Awards last year.

A CHRISTMAS LOVE STORY,  CHRISTMAS TOWN and CHRISTMAS WISHES & MISTLETOE KISSES were all nominated for the Epiphany Prize® for the most inspiring TV program on 2019.

CHRISTMAS WISHES & MISTLETOE KISSES won the award.

Audiences should use discernment this holiday season though, as at least one of Hallmark’s upcoming films features a homosexual relationship. It’s sad to see Hallmark choosing to alienate a core demographic of viewers who have loved and supported their content.
