Harrison Ford Gets Emotional Over This Honor

Harrison Ford choked back tears and shared his deep appreciation for everyone he has worked with while accepting the honor of a Disney Legend during D23.

“I love the life you’ve given me. I love the people that I’ve had the opportunity to work with. Nobody does anything in this business for long. We work in collaboration, no matter who we are and what we’re doing,” Ford said while accepting the honor.

“I am a storyteller — assistant storyteller,” he added. “The stories are for you, about you, about us. To be able to work in that area is a privilege.”

The Disney Legends honor recognizes the work of “gifted animators, Imagineers, songwriters, actors, and business leaders as having made a significant impact on the Disney legacy.” Though Ford’s most famous work on INDIANA JONES and STAR WARS was done before Lucasfilm was acquired by Disney, he was eligible for the award because of the impact these franchises have had on Disney.

When called on stage for the award, Ford was introduced by Disney CEO Bob Iger who lauded the actor for his hard work and the image he has made for himself in the industry.

“Before he was the captain of the Millenium Falcon or a globetrotting archeologist, Harrison Ford was, like so many, an aspiring actor who came to Hollywood to pursue their dreams,” Iger said. “He is the definition of a leading man, who stands alone in a category all his own.”

Ford’s work for Disney will continue next year in CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD where he will play Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, the U.S. President who turns into Red Hulk.

Other Legends inductees at this year’s conference included Jamie Lee Curtin, Miley Cyrus, Kelly Ripa, James Cameron, Frank Oz and Angela Bassett, among others.

Movieguide® previously reported on Ford:

Legendary actor Harrison Ford credits his parents for giving him a moral compass to follow in his life because of their Judeo-Christian backgrounds.

“[I] have Jewish mother and a Catholic father,” Ford said at a roundtable interview for THE CALL OF THE WILD. “They were very interested in giving me a moral context.”

Unfortunately, the Ford family eventually fell away from their walks with the Lord.

“[My parents] found their moral context in service to others [and a] belief in social justice,” Ford said.

Morality apart from God is considered filthy rags, according to Isaiah 64:6. Again in Ephesians, it reiterates that works alone cannot lead one to salvation.

Ford doesn’t claim Christianity as his personal faith but does continue to hold a reverence for God’s creation, which is evident in CALL OF THE WILD.
