HGTV star Ben Napier reflected on the passing of time as the last of his children graduates from a crib to a “big girl bed.”

“A little over 7 years ago, we found out we were going to have a baby. I immediately started planning out a crib. A little over 6 years ago, Helen moved out of her bassinet and into the white oak crib I had built,” Napier wrote. “She spent her last night in it a little over 3 years ago as we prepared for a new baby.”

“Mae spent her first night in the crib less than 3 years ago. Last night was probably the last night one of my children will sleep in the crib I spent so much time working on,” he continued. “Mae is currently taking a nap in her big girl bed. It’s a beautiful antique cherry Jenny Lind. The crib will live in her room for a few more weeks in case she has some trouble with her big girl bed, but she’s ready. The white oak crib will go into storage until my babies become mamas, then it will be used again. Nothing makes you more aware of time than having children.”

His wife, Erin, also reflected on their kids growing up.

“Minutes after learning we were expecting Helen, in 2017, @scotsman.co started drawing the plans for her crib,” she posted. “He built it from white oak with one tiny plug of heart pine in the top rail that came from inside the wall of our house so his daughter would have a piece of home that belonged to her. Mae slept in it for the last time last night so here, we can remember it.”

As his post makes apparent, Ben knows that his time with his kids is fleeting. Though they are still young, he makes sure to prioritize them above all else so he doesn’t miss out on the short time he has of being their father.

Earlier this year, the Napiers shut down production on their HGTV show, HOME TOWN, for a week when one of their daughters got sick.

“I hated it, and I know it was an expensive problem, but we had to be Mommy and Daddy,” Ben told PEOPLE.

“We have to have our priorities, and our first priority is what will be there when there is no TV, and what was there before there was TV and that’s me and Ben and the girls,” added Erin. “So that’s the priority.”

HGTV stars Ben and Erin Napier are busy with TV shows, multiple businesses, and even starring in an upcoming Christmas movie. However, the renovation couple said that despite their never-ending responsibilities, their family comes first.

The HOME TOWN duo share two daughters, Helen, 4, and Mae, 17 months, and announced that they were taking a step back from their busy schedules to spend time with their daughters.

Over the past nine months, the couple renovated a house for their family to live in.

“This is our quote, unquote weekend getaway,” Ben, 39, told PEOPLE in a recent interview.

“Once you add a swing set, a dog, a kiddie pool and a rabbit cage, suddenly the yard that felt huge in the beginning starts feeling a lot smaller,” Ben said of their decision to buy a new house.
