Chip and Joanna Gaines just celebrated twenty-two years of marriage! The FIXER UPPER couple took to Instagram to share the special milestone.
“T W E N T Y T W O Y E A R S ❤️” Joanna’s caption began, accompanied by a video of the couple dancing together. “We’ve loved turning our date nights into dance nights. We are going to need quite a few more lessons but this is so much fun! Thanks for you patience, @dancewaco 😉 Happy Anniversary—Here’s to learning new things the older we get! @chipgaines ❤️”
Fans in the comment section joined in congratulating the couple.
“The saying on the wall says it all!!!! You two are amazing together because you always work as a team!!!” one person said, referring to a painting on the dance studio wall that reads “We are made better when we work together.”
Another fan chimed in “Happy Anniversary – you’re an inspirational couple. May God abundantly bless you and your family with His joy, peace and protection always.”
The couple met in 2001 when Chip came into the auto shop that Joanna’s dad owned.
He previously said, “Her dad made the mistake of putting a pic of the family behind the counter at his shop. I knew I’d marry her one day just by the picture on the wall.”
Chip and Joanna got married in 2003, and they share five children: Drake, 20, Ella Rose, 19, Duke, 17, Emmie Kay, 15, and Crew, 7.
How do they keep their marriage strong?
“Our secret ingredient to our marriage and working relationship is a solid mutual respect,” Chip said. “We definitely disagree. It’s not perfect. A lot of hard work goes into this, but if you can get to a mutual place of respect, you can change the world.”
Joanna previously told TODAY that part of the reason for their successful relationship is realizing where one another’s strengths are.
In 2022, she said, “Part of it is just that partnership and that understanding of, like, Chip’s strengths, what lane that he stays in, my strengths, my weaknesses, what lanes I stay in.”
Joanna also reflected on the family dynamic of having teenagers and a young child. “I know I’m their mother, but they feel like just your friends. So just a sweet season as the older they get, just the connection that’s there, and like, I want to hang out with them. And then we have this five-year-old that just helps with perspective.”
Chip and Joanna’s marriage is a reminder that healthy and godly relationships take patience, hard work and understanding.
