How an Elevation Worship Song Helped Kidnapped Nurse Through Imprisonment

New Hampshire nurse Alix Dorsainvil said Elevation Worship’s “See a Victory” became her anthem after she and her daughter were abducted in Haiti.

Dorsainvil and her daughter were freed last week after being held captive for almost two weeks. The pair were taken from the campus of a Christian school near Port-au-Prince.

“I am completely humbled by the outpouring of support and prayer for myself and my sweet baby both during and following our time in captivity,” Dorsainvil said in a statement after their release. “God was so very present in the fire with us, and I pray that when I find the words to tell our story, that the mighty name of Jesus may be glorified, and many people will come to know his love.”

The nurse also shared that the Elevation Worship song “See a Victory” helped her through the hardest moments.

“There’s a part that says, ‘You take what the enemy meant for evil, and you turn it for good,’” she explained.

Haitians living near the school’s campus were overjoyed to hear that Dorsainvil and her daughter were safe.

“Thank you, God!” Fredline Valcourt told the Associated Press. “She’s our mother in the area. If we have any problems, we don’t need to go anywhere else. She would take care of us.”

Louitesse Desumer said, “We don’t want them to leave the country,” adding that she had gone to church to pray for their safe return.

It is still unclear who kidnapped Dorsainvil and her daughter or why they did so.

CNN reported that the Haitian National Police cannot comment on the matter at the moment because it is still under investigation.

Movieguide® previously reported on Elevation Worship’s success:

The Grammy Award-winning band, Elevation Worship recently released a new album called LION. Frontman Chris Brown said it goes outside the box of traditional worship.

“I just think across the album, there’s this assortment. It’s like a box of chocolates. You don’t know what’s coming next,” he told The Christian Post.

Along with Elevation Church’s pastor Steven Furtick, Brown said they started working on music together when they were both teenagers.

“It’s like a dream getting to still do that with him all these years later. I’ve been here for 15 years. I came about a year into the church being planted, and we’ve been writing songs, really since day one of myself coming on,” Brown said.

“That vision was always in his heart for Elevation to be a worshiping church, for Elevation to have songs that we’re writing and giving language to our people for what God’s doing here through our ministry,” he added.
