Dean Cain recalled how watching his goddaughter play soccer with thousands of other kids inspired his newest movie.

“My niece and my goddaughter were playing soccer. I would do out to these soccer games on the weekends and there would be 5, 7,000 kids out there playing soccer and all their families. So, it’s this monstrous group of kids, and I though, this would be a great idea for a movie,” Cain told Pix 11. “I wrote it, produced it, directed it, and it came out great.”

The movie, LITTLE ANGELS, follows a storyline that, though dramatized for the big screen, could play out dozens of times across America.

“So my character is a Nick Saban football coach; he gets in trouble for saying something stupid — which anyone can do — and then he ends up having to coach under 13-year-old girls soccer,” Cain explained. “He didn’t know anything about [soccer]…so he brings in a professional, Brandi Chastain.”

The movie is an instant classic, as the girls learn a lot about life from Cain’s character, as he realizes something was missing from his life after coaching them. A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:

LITTLE ANGELS is a funny, cute, heartwarming sports comedy. The movie takes a little too long to get to the third act, but the ending is fun and satisfying. LITTLE ANGELS has a strong moral, pro-family worldview with positive Christian content. Coach Jake realizes his life has been pretty empty because he’s had nobody to share it. At the end, he compares being part of a team to being part of a family, where everyone looks out for everyone else. Also, one of the girls on his team reads the Bible, mentions eternal salvation and prays.

While LITTLE ANGELS came about because of Cain’s family, that is not the only thing he has gained from them. The actor previously shared how his faith became real after becoming a father and realizing just how much he loves his son.

“Where I really found faith was becoming a parent,” Cain said in 2023. “When my son was born, just witnessing the miracle of birth, and then all of a sudden there’s this person on the planet that I care about more than myself. I would gladly die before anything happened. I would step in front of a bullet, in front of a train, I would do anything to save this person rather than myself. That really got me. That changes your whole perspective.”

“My faith just gets stronger as I get older, the more I learn, the more I know and the more I understand, and the more I understand that some things aren’t understandable,” he continued. “That’s really been my journey. I’m really happy to go out and make as many faith-based films as I can.”

LITTLE ANGELS is another step in this journey as Cain continues to work on projects for the whole family to enjoy. The movie is in theaters now.
