Savannah Bananas standout RobertAnthony Cruz, also known as Coach RAC, shared several things he’s learned from playing baseball.
“Now, what I’ve learned about God through sports is that God can use anything to refine us,” Coach RAC explained in a video on Instagram. “I have a bad day at the field, God uses that to shape my character. God uses my struggles in sports to build patience within me. God uses the success of my teammates to build humility within me and remind me that the world doesn’t revolve around me. It’s not about me.”

“God uses sports to challenge me to be a good steward of the body that I’ve been given and to take care of it,” the Banana ball player continued. “If you hear nothing else, hear this: don’t have your happiness determined by how successful you are in your sport. Instead, think about the way that God sees you, and God sees you and loves you the same, regardless of how you perform. Why? Because He’s a loving father. That’s the example that God gives us.”
“We are like His children who have been adopted through Jesus Christ,” Cruz added. “So when we look at God, our Father, He looks at us with love regardless of whether or not we’ve succeeded. Maybe you have a great father, maybe you don’t, but a perfect, loving, heavenly Father will love His child regardless of how that child performs. Why? Because the child is precious in the father’s sight, and that is who we are.”
“So whether you’re playing a sport in front of 1000s of people, or whether you’re sitting at an office job, work heartily unto the Lord and not unto man, his mercies are new every morning to you,” he concluded, referencing Colossians 3:23-24 and Lamentations 3:22-23.
The Banana Ball league has begun its season with its annual spring training.
“Banana Ball is Back! Amazing first week of Spring Training. This group of players and coaches is special. From the moment everyone arrived, it’s obvious, everyone is all in on putting on the Greatest Show in Sports!” Jesse Cole, Banana Ball creator and Savannah Bananas owner, shared on Instagram.
As Coach Rac and many other players continue to deepen their faith together, they also create opportunities for their fans to connects to God. Through their player-led worship nights, the Sandlot Revival and constant social media posts, millions of people are hearing the Word of God through the Banana Ball league.
