DUCK DYNASTY’s Jase Robertson shared his testimony, explaining how he went from a young man who was self-righteous and judgmental to an outspoken Christian who realizes he is just as broken as everyone else.
“I just isolated myself, and I looked at my family and just said, ‘I’m better than these people. I don’t want to be associated with these people ‘cuz they’re embarrassing.’ Even after my dad gave his life to Christ and everything changed, the damage that had already been done, and I wanted to be better than the family that I started in,” Robertson told I Am Second. “People viewed me as quiet, soft spoken, but deep down, I was trying to prove to everyone around me ‘I’m better than you.'”
Robertson lived like this for a long time, choosing to a life that looked very Christian on the outside but, on the inside, was fueled by this desire for self-righteousness, rather than in response to a relationship with the Lord. That heart posture, though, changed when he realized that he was living more like a Pharisee than like Jesus.

“I heard the story of Jesus, and I realized I’m in the wrong camp. The evil one works in various ways. He gets you with pleasure. And I saw that. And then here I am filled with trauma. Get me with pride, piety, pompous,” Robertson explained. “You can’t be any more arrogant that I was. I heard the story of Jesus and I surrendered. He died. The old Jase was buried and he’s gone.”
Since placing his identity in Christ, Jase has since seen just how joyful life can be when one casts their cares on the Lord, rather than trying to solve everything on their own. Now he and his family are known for their faith and use the platform the Lord has given them to share the gospel with millions.
“We have our core values as a family and we’ve kept them and that’s our number one priority is making sure our kids know that so they also will have the same values no matter what circumstances come [their] way, if God is your solid foundation good or bad, you’re going to be happy; you’re going to be joyous if you’re in Him,” said Jase’s wife, Missy.
The whole Robertson family has lived out this principle recently as they have mourned the death of their patriarch Phil Robertson earlier this year. While they grieved that he is no longer with them, they also find joy and peace knowing he is in a better place, and that someday they will join him.
“Thankful for Papaw’s Phil life and everything he taught me. He will live on Heaven and in the family, skills, and stories he’s leaving behind,” Luke Robertson wrote on Instagram after his grandfather’s death. “We got to sing Victory in Jesus one last time and in that room in the last days I’ve never felt that to be more true. He believed in redemption and resurrection with everything he had, and I know both have come to pass in this life and will come to pass in the next.”
Praise the Lord for the way He has moved in the life of Jase and everyone else in the Robertson family and for the way they use the platform He has given them to live out the gospel in front of their millions of fans.
