Despite only being 22 years old, Josiah Queen remains humble amidst rapid success. The singer, songwriter explained that his focus stays on the Lord and everything else comes second.
“I think that’s my number one prayer to God, is like, God, help me have the strength to be obedient to where you call me and [my wife], Trinity. And I think so, the first is like praying, making sure I stay, you know, me and Trinity are both praying and staying in our word… But, I’m definitely every day asking the Lord to give me strength and whenever I fall short, repenting and, you know, getting closer to Him; and I think that’s all we can do,” Queen told Jonathan Pokluda.
“I never want my relationship to Jesus to be transactional. Like, hey, let me call God. I’m going to come to you and read this so that I can write a song about this so that people will click on it on social media. Because, that’s not how relationships work…” the singer continued. “And so, you know, it’s like realizing that that’s honestly the hardest thing for me because it’s like, I write songs about the Bible. So, it’s like reading my Bible and going to the Lord, that being my relationship and then everything else coming second.”

Even in the places where he falls short, Queen finds inspiration for his songs. His most popular tune, “Dusty Bibles,” speaks to the way that all of us put our devices over God so much of the time.
“With dust on our Bibles, brand-new iPhones / No wonder why we feel this way / We walk with our eyes closed, blind lead blind folks / I’m done with those idols and duty Bibles,” Queen sings.
Meanwhile, Queen writes songs from his heart, rather than focusing on crafting lyrics and tunes that are made to go viral. For “Dusty Bibles,” Queen revealed that the inspiration for the song hit after he had been scrolling his phone for hours. The singer also admitted that earlier in his career he was only trying to write hits but did not find success until he shifted his focus onto wholly honoring the Lord.
“I was writing songs that I thought would work for the radio — what I thought labels wanted,” Queen told Relevant. “And they weren’t really clicking. So finally I said, ‘Forget it. I’m just gonna make something I like.’ That’s where it started. This was always the dream. I used to pray that I’d just write worship music for a living. That’s all I ever wanted.”
Praise the Lord for Queen’s success and the way that he is working so hard to keep himself rooted in the Lord, rather than allowing the fame and glory he is experiencing to shift his focus away.
