Kathie Lee Gifford admitted that recent hardships left her in a dark place and asking the Lord if He still had a plan for her.
“The last two years, because of the pain and the disappointment in my personal life, a huge disappointment, I have wanted to go home to Jesus. I felt like God was done with me because I couldn’t walk anymore. I was in a black place, in a black space, for two years,” Gifford told TBN. “And I just kept crying out to Him, just, ‘Lord, if this is it, if this is all you have for me, I’m okay, I mean, then take me home. Why would I want to be here?’ And I was having even beautiful grandchildren being born in that time, that’s how deep my despair was.”
“And I just cried out, and cried out, and cried out. And, in the meantime, God’s either doing two things to you – one or the other is happening while you’re in that kind of hurt or pain, especially. You just lash out and are angry at Him, or you start to see everywhere around you that people are suffering far more than you are, and it gives you a compassion for them that you thought you had, but you don’t understand until, you know, it’s you,” she continued.

“And so, that was – if I wasn’t crying out to the Lord to, you know, give me something to have purpose for again, or something to have joy in my life again, I was praying for all these other people. And that, I think, was the road out,” the former TV personality reflected.
Part of that hard season came from multiple surgeries Gifford had focused on mending her hips which were in very bad shape due to her active lifestyle.
“You climbed mountains, you made movies, you got on stages. You never took off your high heels, and you kept going and that’s why you’re going through what you’re going through,” she recalled her doctor telling her.
However, as she faced this extreme trial, she leaned on the Lord, never wavering in her faith. Furthermore, she found solace in the stories throughout the Bible where so many of the people faced extreme trials but after coming through them found that Lord had been by their side the entire time.
“The Bible in James says ‘Consider it all joy, even with these trials and tribulations.’ That does not come naturally at all. We want to moan and cry out in despair. But it’s taken me a lifetime to understand that every moment is a gift,” she told Woman’s World.
Praise the Lord that Gifford has come through this difficult time in life and is now opening up about how hard it was to encourage her fans and help them see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
