How This Popular Artist Helped Sadie Robertson Huff Worship Like No One’s Watching

After a negative experience when she was young, Sadie Robertson Huff stopped worshipping God the way she wanted to.

It wasn’t until she saw Lauren Daigle that she learned it doesn’t matter what others think.

“Whenever I was young, [I] really want[ed] to raise my hands [in worship] because I just was beginning to like, feel that, and wanting to express stuff and worship,” Huff explained in a recent podcast episode. “I didn’t even want to hold it back ‘cause I’m just so into this moment worshipping God and I was like, okay, I’m gonna bust past it, and so I raise my hands in worship and the first time I did though, this guy literally came up to me, and this is like…middle school, and he taps on my should, and he says, ‘We don’t do that here’ and it like embarrassed me.”

“I was like, oh my gosh. Like, put my hands down and then years later…This was like DUCK DYNASTY days. Before I’m speaking or anything — we got invited to the Dove Awards, and I sat right behind Lauren Daigle and her friend, and I will never forget this moment. It had such a significant impact on me. They were worshipping like no one was watching.”

Huff was amazed by how they acted. It was obvious they didn’t care at all what anyone thought of them.

“It’s not to gain attention…It was so pure-hearted. It was so beautiful and it really inspired me,” she said.

“After that, it was the first time I started raising my hands again but I just remember being like, ‘I’m not gonna care, Lord. I care so much more about you than what people think.’”

Huff went on to launch her own worship group, LO Worship. She occasionally sings with the band and helps write their music.

In 2022, Huff’s baby daughter, Honey, raised her hand during worship, as she saw adults doing. Huff shared that it gave her “overwhelming joy and awe.”

“I watched her as she watched every hand go up around her as people raised their hands in a posture of pouring out their heart to God,” Huff wrote on Instagram. “I could see the curiosity in her eyes.”

She continued:

So, as I watched, I shifted her over to my hip and I raised my hand and Christian raised his and then with the fullest confidence Honeys hand shot up on the air! And from that point on this girl worshipped. Hand up and legs kicking. By the end she even had both hands up.

Sometimes it can feel intim[id]ating to worship. I can seem confusing even, when you look around at a world so troubled and you see people with hands lifted high trusting in God. It can feel awkward to surrender and express yourself in such a way that gives glory to a king you can’t even see.

But when you experience a glimpse of the goodness of God you can’t help but express yourself in such a way that reflects your hearts gratitude. You don’t care about what other people think. You worship because despite how troubled the world is, this king is your HOPE. And for that hope, my hands will be lifted high.

“Therefore, I encourage the men to pray on every occasion with hands lifted to God in worship with clean hearts, free from frustration or strife.”
