Here’s How You Can Watch Mike Rowe’s SOMETHING TO STAND FOR

Mike Rowe’s SOMETHING TO STAND FOR will now be available to stream!
“I know there was some frustration back in July, when lots of people on this page, (and all over the country), couldn’t find SOMETHING TO STAND FOR in a theater that was close to their home,” Rowe wrote on his Facebook page.
The DIRTY JOBS host explained that this was, in part, due to the marketing of the movie as a “Fourth of July Event,” meaning it got “a very short run” in theaters.
“But a funny thing happened on the way to the cinema…” Rowe continued. “The reviews turned out to be incredibly positive, (it’s still holding fast at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes), and the word of mouth that surrounded it’s release was really powerful. In other words, the movie generated a LOT of buzz, just as its limited engagement came to an end, creating a ton of demand for a product that wasn’t there. (Oops.)”
Rowe then announced that SOMETHING TO STAND FOR is now available to stream on Angel Studios’ streaming platform.
“Fans of my podcast won’t be shocked to learn that Angel turned out to be the initial home for this film. I’ve interviewed the Harmon Brothers at length, and long admired not just what they’ve built, but how they built it,” he explained. “Unlike other streamers, members of the Angel Guild have a direct say in what kind of content the studio makes, and what kind of content the studio acquires. The result is a unique collection of programming that serves an audience that Hollywood has become pretty good at ignoring. To say it another way, the content at Angel Studios actually stands for something, which makes it a great place to watch SOMETHING TO STAND FOR.”
SOMETHING TO STAND FOR, based on Rowe’s podcast episodes of the same name, “will take viewers to the frontlines of the American Revolution, World War II, the Civil Rights movement, and more. Part mystery, part history — each harrowing tale tells a story you’ve never heard, about the patriots who built our country,” per a description on the movie’s website.

SOMETHING TO STAND FOR is a stirring, inspiring, superb documentary. Mike Rowe, who produces and wrote the script, infuses his movie with an energetic style. He celebrates liberty, patriotism, duty, honor, and sacrifice. However, it fudges some historical facts. SOMETHING TO STAND FOR also has some re-enacted war violence, a few light obscenities and a humorous, somewhat off-color biographical story about animal husbandry. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger and older children. That said, SOMETHING TO STAND FOR WITH MIKE ROWE is worth seeing on the big screen.
In an interview with The Stream, Rowe described SOMETHING TO STAND FOR as “a love letter of sorts to the people who helped build the country and to the principles that most people today, even people on opposite sides of the aisle, can agree make us who we are: uniquely American.”
“I wanted to do the movie because, in spite of all our differences and the madness that seems to define every new headline with every passing day, there’s just no getting around the fact that we still have an awful lot to be proud of,” he continued. “We have a lot to be grateful for, and we have a lot to celebrate. Anybody who’s traveled the world and taken an honest assessment, in my opinion, of the good, the bad, and the ugly, and looked at the American experiment — warts and all — will still come to the conclusion that we’re not as bad as you may have been told.”
