Iconic TV Duo Reunites at Football Game: ‘Great Day’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Television host Hoda Kotb sacrificed convenience to share a special moment with her daughter and a close friend, and she doesn’t regret it.
Kotb and her daughter Hailey went to the New York Giants-New Orleans Saints game with her former TODAY co-host Kathie Lee Gifford on Dec. 8.
“We always leave second quarter, exit strategy get out before the rush,” the host explained on the TODAY SHOW. But this time, “We stayed until the very last moment. I’ll tell you why. The Saints were winning by three points, there was a kick at the end, and the Giants had an easy lay-up kick, they could’ve tied it overtime…The guy missed the kick. I felt bad for like one minute…I go ‘Hailey we’re going to sit in traffic,’ she goes ‘I don’t care mom,’ We sat together, we kind of dosed off, we held hands, and we road home.”
“So what if you’re sitting for a little while, big deal,” Kotb added.
“Who has replaced my friend?” her co-host Jenna Bush Hager joked, referencing Kotb’s habit of leaving events early.
The game was a special time for Kotb and Gifford to reunite and spend time with each other’s families.
“Kathie Lee and Hoda have connections to the teams that played in the game. Kathie Lee’s late husband, Frank Gifford, is a Giants legend, while Hoda is a longtime Saints fan, having worked in New Orleans earlier in her career,” TODAY reported.
Hoda took to Instagram to post photos of the special day. “Great day,” she wrote alongside photos with Gifford and their families.
“The best duo with the best chemistry in television history… my opinion,” one user commented on the post. Another person added, “Awww!!! Love this so much!!! The dream team. KLG&Hoda?”
Kotb recently announced that her time on TODAY is coming to an end, and she will leave in early 2025.

“I have always said to everybody that the most fun thing for me when I was here with you was watching you become that Hoda,” Gifford said of her friend’s time on the show. “I remember saying to you, ‘If you can be the same person on the air with me… as you are here in the hair and makeup, we’re going to have a hit show!'”
“Gifford was right, and years later they are still regarded as one of the most iconic duos in the history of morning television,” NBC said.
