INSIDE OUT Spin-Off to Drop Next Spring

INSIDE OUT Spin-Off to Drop Next Spring

By Movieguide® Contributor

Pixar exec Pete Docter recently shared when fans can expect to see the INSIDE OUT spin-off series.

“We have finished,” he told Entertainment Weekly of the Disney+ series. “It’s coming out next spring.”

Docter continued, “I’m not sure that there’s been a specific release date, but in the first film, remember we go to Dream Production to see how Riley’s dreams are made? It semi-explains why they’re so weird. We’ve continued the exploration of the power of dreams and how they affect us in our waking life, as well. So it’s pretty cool.”

It’s not surprising Disney and Pixar are ready to push more INSIDE OUT projects. INSIDE OUT 2 took home $100 million in its second weekend at the box office, and is the highest-grossing movie so far this year.

“Ticket sales declined just 35% from its mighty $154 million debut, resulting in the seventh-biggest sophomore outing in history and best ever for an animated film,” Variety reported

The movie has yet to premiere in Japan, and experts think the box office numbers there might push INSIDE OUT 2 over the $1 billion mark.

“As a global phenomenon attracting moviegoers well beyond families and kids and a message that resonates and is relatable across all cultures and languages, INSIDE OUT 2 is the rare film that is both a box-office sprinter and a marathon runner,” Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst at Comscore, told CNBC. “It is the perfect candidate for admission to the billion-dollar club.”

Movieguide® previously reported on INSIDE OUT 2’s box office success:

INSIDE OUT 2 surpassed DUNE: PART TWO to become 2024’s top movie.

The family-friendly flick garnered over $725 million in ticket sales worldwide and is expected to take in even more.

Per Forbes, “INSIDE OUT 2 has overperformed every day of its mere 10 days of release, including weekday totals that set records and led to expectations for at least a $600+ million global cume by end of business Sunday (minus additional revenue from China, as Monday morning screenings start there while it’s still Sunday evening in the Western Hemisphere).”

A portion of the Movieguide® review reads:

INSIDE OUT 2 is a marvelous, family-friendly animated movie. The movie is delightful, funny, inventive, and heartwarming. It has many positive messages. For example, it promotes “the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10c) and doing the right thing, controlling your emotions and not letting anxieties overcome your decision making. INSIDE OUT 2 also promotes kindness, friendship, repentance, and forgiveness. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children for scenes of peril and a large scary-looking but nonthreatening character. Unlike other recent animated movies, INSIDE OUT 2 doesn’t have any woke or politically correct content.
