Is LeAnne Rime’s Latest Album, ‘God’s Work,’ a Christian Album?

By Movieguide® Contributor

LeAnn Rimes calls her new album, god’s work, a “reclamation of God” for herself, and recently shared how the album came to be.

“I kind of ran from the word God for a long time,” Rimes shared. “I was raised Southern Baptist and my frustration was we’re brought up with these messages of love, acceptance, community and forgiveness, but no one’s living them to the fullest.”

She added that her upbringing led her to “question how we’re allowing creation to work through us for a better world.”

“God can mean different things to different people. To me, it inserts the word ‘love,’ the word ‘creation,’” the singer explained. “I saw somewhere where people were saying it’s called, ‘god’s work,’ so it’s a religious record. It’s whatever it is to you.”

Rimes has been spending this summer touring, playing the tracks from god’s work, as well as some of her biggest hits.

“Even when people didn’t know the music they seemed to be connecting and jamming to it already,” Rimes shared. “When we played god’s work it’s like we turned the whole audience into a choir and by the end, they were all singing ‘We are God’s work’ then applauding afterward. I think it’s empowering.

“I wanted to touch on the collective experience we were having and some of the complexities of that. I got to dig into grief, anger, rage and hope, just a myriad of emotions we all go through in this human experience,” she concluded.

Some have questioned why God is lowercase in the album’s title, but Rimes explained that the “lowercase ‘g’ represents the duality of this record and where humanity meets spirit.”

Movieguide® previously reported on the release of god’s work:

Country superstar LeAnn Rimes is releasing her latest album, God’s Work, early next year and fans can’t wait! The singer has been working on the record for the last three years on what Rimes calls “an inspirational record.”

In an interview with Fox News, Rimes shared, “I actually have ‘God’s Work’ tattooed on my arm because I do believe that we are all a part of that and here to put down the doctrine and our own beliefs of duality and our differences and actually love one another and create a new world. And that really is what the record is about – music speaking to the times and the importance of each and every one of our places in creating a better world for one another.”

The singer has been open about her faith, recording contemporary Christian albums and discussing her commitment to leading a faith-based life on her website, Soul of EverLe.

Rimes hopes that listeners will pick up on the themes of vulnerability in the album, saying, “I get to use my voice in different ways to connect with people. I feel like what I’m here to do, you know, like the celebrity and the music and all of that is an added bonus to what we’re really here to do with each other, right? [We’re here] to connect and for that vulnerability to be what connects us.”
