Jason Kelce Joins ESPN’s MONDAY NIGHT COUNTDOWN After NFL Retirement

Following his NFL retirement, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce will pursue a career in broadcasting.

TODAY confirmed that he “will join MONDAY NIGHT COUNTDOWN, the pregame show for ESPN’s MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL.”

Kelce will join a stacked group of hosts and won’t be the only former NFL player on board.

He will sit alongside Larry Fitzgerald, Robert Griffin III and longtime ESPN analyst Scott Van Pelt.

Kelce’s wife, Kylie, alluded to his new position during an interview on the TODAY show on April 1, though nothing was confirmed at the time.

“I think nothing is off the table at this point,” she said. “I think that he—I mean, he’s my husband, so I’m biased, but I think he’s just so good at everything he tries. It’s kind of a pain in the butt. I think that nothing is off the table. He’s an ideas guy, so I think he’s just sort of letting them brew and see what happens.”

Last year, Kelce joined the “NFL Broadcasting and Media Workshop, which used to be known as the Broadcast Bootcamp. He has also appeared on numerous NFL broadcasts, including a stint with Amazon’s THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL during an off week in 2023.”

At the time, he felt he was in “all new territory,” but he has “even more respect for it now. It’s very hard to do something live, reactive of stimulus that just happened and having something clever and meaningful to say.”

However, Kelce isn’t new to the broadcasting world. He hosts the “New Heights” podcast with his brother Travis Kelce, and his experience with the show should help him adjust to his new role on ESPN.

Movieguide® previously reported on his retirement:

Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce announced his retirement from the NFL…

“So this all brings us here to today, where I announce that I am retiring,” Kelce confirmed. “Where I announce I am retiring from the NFL after 13 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and today, I must admit, I am officially overrated, vastly overrated…”

He reflected on the power of fathers, thanking his own for setting him up for success.

“I am a product of my upbringing,” Kelce said. “I think one of the best things a person can be in this world is a father. A father who is present, loving, devoted, just might be the greatest gift a child could ask for in our society.”

“My father believed in me more than anyone. He believed in my brother and whenever my own insecurities would arise or self doubt would come in he would stifle them with the warm embrace of belief, unwavering love, and belief … He was the man and continues to be the man and father I strive to be,” he said.
