For Frankie Muniz, the birth of his son was an encouragement to continue racing — and hopefully, inspire him to work hard.
“A lot of the reason I went back racing was because of my son,” he said during an appearance on Fox News, referring to his race car driving career. “I think most people are usually the opposite. They slow down. They have a kid, they go, ‘Oh, I don’t want to — sell the motorcycles, I don’t want to do anything dangerous.’ But I was holding my son in the hospital the day he was born, and I was looking at him and I had this really weird thought of like, ‘Who is my son going to grow up thinking that his dad is?’ Because everything I had done was in my past. I used to be an actor, I used to be in a band.”
Muniz explained, “I wanted him to see me working really, really hard for something that is not easy.”
“I decided right then [that] I wanted to go back racing, so I’m using it as inspiration for me to be a role model for him, but also for him,” he concluded. “I want him to grow up and see what hard work and dedication can do for you.”

The former actor also spoke to the outlet about another change in his life: moving from Los Angeles to Arizona.
“I say moving to Arizona from Los Angeles saved my life in the sense that I just really started enjoying the little aspects of life,” Muniz said. “I realized I left my house, like, just looking down all the time. And when I moved to Arizona, I started looking up.”
He called Los Angeles a “very hectic and busy” place where everyone is “trying to be seen…and just really wasn’t my cup of tea.”
“Moving to Arizona definitely allowed me to… it made me want to do more normal things, if that makes sense,” Muniz concluded. “I found myself in Los Angeles just staying at my house unless I had to go to work. I just didn’t really want to leave.”
That doesn’t mean that Muniz has left his career as an actor behind, though. He recently wrapped production on Disney’s MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE reboot series.
“It was just really fun and a really cool experience, so I’m hoping that everyone loves it for sure,” he told People about the project, adding that it was “probably one of the best times I’ve ever had on a set.”
Muniz’s son has inspired him to not only keep working as a race car driver, but to show him the value of hard work and dedication.
