MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE’s Frankie Muniz Doesn’t Want Son in Entertainment Industry

MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE star Frankie Muniz recently revealed why he doesn’t want his son, Mauz, 3, in the entertainment industry.

“I would never let my kid go into the business,” Muniz said in a video. “And not that I had a negative experience because, to be honest, my experience was 100 percent positive. But I know so many people, friends that were close to me, that had such insanely negative experiences.”

He continued, “And I just think it’s an ugly world in general. I never cared about rejection, but there’s a ton of rejection.”

He then dove into what it takes to become a successful actor and the rarity that comes with that.

“I truly say that becoming a successful actor is like winning the lottery. That’s all it is,” Muniz compared. “You know, me getting MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE—maybe that was a little different than other child shows, but like, as a child actor, you get picked because you look like you could be the kid of the parents they picked.”

“I think people think that it’s an easy thing to break into, but you know I like to be honest about it and say like there’s a million people in Hollywood who try who won’t even—maybe they’re amazing actors, they could be the best actors on the planet, but they don’t even get the opportunity,” he revealed. “So, it’s not like going into a different industry where you can really work hard. You break into it, and you know, you keep going, and you kind of work your way up the ladder.”

While Muniz found success in Hollywood, he decided to walk away from it.

“…when the show ended, I kind of left the business for a little bit,” he said. “I started doing other things. I was racing cars. I joined a band. I was touring all over. I opened some businesses and I got to experience so many amazing things in my life, which now at this point has made me able to reflect and look back and be so appreciative of the experience.”

He’s now pursuing a career in racing.

“I was at the height of my career and I called my agents and managers like, ‘I don’t want to do any acting right now, I’m gonna focus on racing,'” he recalled.

Frankie Muniz, two-time Golden Globe nominee and Emmy nominee for his work on MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE, announced that he is switching gears and will be ARCA racing full-time in 2023.

“Ever since childhood, it’s been my dream to pursue racing in NASCAR,” Muniz shared.

While he had a successful acting career on the sitcom MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE (2000-2006), Muniz took a break from his acting to focus on his other passions, which included racing, as Movieguide® previously reported.

Now 37, Muniz has the chance to live out his childhood dream.

“Finally making my dream a reality, this one is for my son and showing him that you can always chase your dreams,” he posted on Instagram.

USA Today reports that the former actor will drive the No. 30 Rette Jones Racing Ford Mustang full-time in the ARCA Menards Series and participate in testing at the Daytona International Speedway as part of the Rette Jones Racing team.
