Jason Momoa sports a clean face for DUNE: PART THREE, and he’s not thrilled about it.

“…I hate it!” Momoa said in a social media video of himself shaving his beard. “It has been about six years — maybe a little bit more — since I did DUNE.”

He added, “Only for you, Denis!” referring to DUNE director Denis Villeneuve.

Momoa starred as Duncan Idaho in DUNE, which came out in 2021. Even though his character died, he will make a return for DUNE 3.

Villeneuve previously said of Part Three: “The story takes place like 12 years after where we left the characters at the end of Part Two. Their journey, their story is different this time, and that’s why I always say that while it’s the same world it’s a new film with new circumstances.”

Momoa announced his comeback in the DUNE franchise on the TODAY show in March.

“I’m making a comeback,” he told TODAY’s Craig Melvin. “You heard it first, right here with you, baby.”

“If you didn’t read the books, it’s not my fault, right?” he joked, referencing author Frank Herbert’s novels on which the franchise is based. “Yeah, there’s going to be…I’m going to be coming back.” In the book series, Idaho is revived as a clone.

Movieguide® nominated both DUNE and DUNE: PART TWO for awards.

Momoa’s son, Nakoa-Wolf, will make his first theatrical debut in DUNE 3, Deadline reported. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh and Anya Taylor-Joy will also return for the last installment.

“They have to return. They are with the main cast when it happens. And more worms. What can I say?” Momoa said of the returning cast.

Of Nakoa-Wolf’s debut, Momoa said, “He’s in for a rude awakening is what he’s in for. He’s into the workforce for the first time. It’s going to be good. He did it on his own. I don’t want to help him, and he’s done it all on his own, and good for him.”

“You want your children to be better than you, and I really, actually believe he is,” Momoa said. “I couldn’t do what he’s doing at his age. There’s no way I could sit in a room with [DUNE 3 director] Denis Villeneuve and hold my own.”

“I was on BAYWATCH at 19. He’s 16 and holding ***t down with Denis Villeneuve,” the actor said.

Momoa shares Nakoa-Wolf and daughter Lola Iolani with ex-wife Lisa Bonet.

“We raised him beautiful,” he said. “We raised our children…It’s just, you know, being loved and being confident in themselves… That is what he is. He’s very confident.”

DUNE: PART THREE is scheduled to release on Dec. 18, 2026.
