John Krasinski and Emily Blunt are ‘In It Together’ as Parents

By Movieguide® Contributor

John Krasinski says his family is “all in it together,” especially when it comes to being away from his kids.

The actor was asked if he feels any “dad guilt” for being away from his daughters, Hazel, 10, and Violet, 7, for work while appearing on the “Pop Culture Moms” podcast.

“The fact that it’s dad guilt versus mom guilt is the beauty of being married to someone like Em,” Krasinski said, referring to his wife, actress Emily Blunt. “There is no mom or dad guilt. It’s us, you know, as a family, we’re all in it together.”

He continued, “But I will say that it’s difficult. And we’ve had many conversations with our kids, first and foremost being that when we have to go away for work, there are some people who don’t geographically go away, but their parents’ jobs take them away till 8 p.m. or 10 p.m. or you go on business trips over the weekend. So we’re all in it together, just in different aspects as parents.”

Both Blunt and Krasinski were nominated for Movieguide®’s Teddy Awards® for their roles in THE QUIET PLACE.

Krasinski said he tries to view his absences as a way to show his daughters what it’s like to do something you love.

“When they see why you go away is because it’s something you love, then that’ll inspire them to do the most important thing, I think, which is whatever they decide to do in their lives, just love it,” he explained. “And if you love it, then you get to have experiences like Emily and I get to have, and that would be the biggest bonus of going away all the time for work.”

Blunt has also spoken about the importance of being there for their kids, as well as the guilt she sometimes feels for being away from them.

“It’s just dreams with purpose, it’s not an ugly word,” the actress said of her career, adding that she prioritizes the little moments in her daughters’ lives.

“I just feel there are cornerstones to their day that are so important when they’re little,” Blunt said on an episode of the “Table for Two With Bruce Bozzi” podcast. “And it’s, ‘Will you wake me up? Will you take me to school? Will you pick me up? Will you put me to bed?’ And I just need to be there for all of them for a good stretch. And I just felt that in my bones.”

Hazel and Violet actually served as inspiration for Krasinski’s latest movie, IF

The actor said he would watch his daughters “disappear into a magical world that we, as parents, aren’t allowed into…I said to Emily, ‘That would make an amazing movie.’”

Movieguide® previously reported on IF:

Actor John Krasinski recently spoke on why his new movie IF is “his most personal movie yet.”

“I made this movie for my kids,” THE OFFICE actor shared. “I’ve always wanted to make a movie for my kids, but I wasn’t sure what to do. And I had this idea to do something with imaginary friends, but I wasn’t sure what my take on it would be.”

IF follows “a girl who has superpowers that give her the ability to ‘see everyone’s imaginary friends’ and uses her gift to ‘reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids.’”

Along with Carell, the movie stars Ryan Reynolds, Louis Gossett Jr. and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

“I just called everyone up and said ‘Listen, you have no reason to do this. It’s a movie about imaginary friends. It’s also helping kids cope with growing up and stuff like that.’ And I said ‘If you want to do it, great.’ I’ve never had quicker yeses in my life,” Krasinski said.
