This Book of the Bible Inspired Country Star’s Song About ‘Spiritual Warfare’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Country star John Rich took inspiration from the book of Revelations for his latest song.

“I think we’ve all been thinking about that, but I really didn’t set out to write a specific song about it,” he told CBN News of “Revelation.” “It just kind of came out of nowhere. It was kind of downloaded to me. I tell people it’s really not lyrics; it’s really Scripture that I just made rhyme. Like, I took what it says, and I figured out how to build that into what would be a song, and then I didn’t really know what to do with it.”

Rich continued, “It became more and more apparent to me that the things that song was talking about — which is spiritual warfare — that there is a much bigger situation going on than Democrat, Republican, left, right. Much, much, much bigger, which we’re told in Scripture. That’s actually the truth of it — ‘We wrestle not with flesh and blood, but with principalities and powers.’”

The country singer shared his hopes for the song, saying he hopes to encourage people to “pick their Bibles up and start reading it for themselves.”

“Read what this says and start digging into it, because, what’s interesting about Daniel, and Revelation, 2 Thessalonians, Matthew 24 — when you read those things now in the current state of the world, those words explode off those pages,” Rich explained. “They come straight at you, because we have real-time physical things we can point at that line up with what that’s saying. It’s no longer science fiction. It’s no longer a crazy thought to think that the Mark of the Beast could exist where every human being on the earth is tracked, and monitored, and they can’t buy or sell without the mark of the system.”

In an Instagram post announcing the single, Rich wrote, “This is the most important song I’ve ever written. I hope it brings strength to the saved, conviction to the lost, and fear to the wicked.”

Rich spoke further about his desire to bring people together through music and warn them of the ongoing culture war in an interview with Tucker Carlson.

“The real war is not Trump and Biden, the real war is not left and right, the real war is not a culture war,” he said. “It says in Ephesians, ‘We wrestle not with flesh and blood but with principalities and powers and the rulers of spiritual darkness of this Earth, of this world.’ That is the battle; that’s the real battle.”

Rich continued, “When God says about Himself, ‘I am the same yesterday, today and forever, my Word does not change.’ We change, culture changes, the world changes, but He doesn’t. So, however, He dealt with things all the way back to the beginning of the written Word is exactly how He’s going to deal with them now and into the future. That is something people don’t want to come to grips with.”
