After a surprise signing from the Green Bay Packers, kicker Lucas Havrisik praised the Lord following a career day where he completed four field goals.

“God’s really good,” Havrisik told his teammates in the locker room following the game. “I’ve been through a lot of things this past year, so I’m just really thankful.”

Though he tied multiple school records while playing at Arizona State, Havrisik went undrafted in the NFL in 2022. The kicker, however, did not give up his dream there and fought for a roster spot ever since. Havrisik has since had opportunities with the Colts, Browns, Bills, Rams, and played for the Arlington Renegades in the United Football League.

Last week, Havrisik was called to Green Bay to tryout for the Packers after their regular kicker, Brandon McManus, incurred a quad injury during practice. Havrisik was then signed less than 24 hours before the Sunday game, where he would become a crucial part of the team’s win. His four made field goals appears to have cemented him a place on the team, at least until McManus is healthy.

As he continues to fight for his place in the NFL, Havrisik remains rooted by placing his trust in the Lord. His Instagram bio includes John 3:30 which reads, “He must become greater; I must become less.”

Meanwhile, Havrisik shared in September that he had gotten baptized.

“Was baptized last Tuesday!” the kicker shared in an Instagram post. “I had wrestled with the thought of baptism not knowing why we had to do it and I had already got baptized at a young age. I never personally made the choice to be baptized and felt convicted over the past few years to do so but never did. I grew up as a ‘Christian’ but never read God’s word or knew much about what the Gospel really meant. All I knew is that I was a sinner.”

“I thought I could be good enough or offer something to God but nothing could pay for my sins, only Jesus could pay the wages of my sin through his death, burial and resurrection. Through college, God drew me closer to Him by His grace through struggles and various things…” Havrisik continued. “Baptsim doesn’t save you but it’s an act of obedience to God, publicly declaring your faith in Jesus Christ. Thank you Jesus!”

Despite only just getting rebaptized, it is amazing how comfortable Havrisik was sharing the glory of the Lord with his new teammates after Sunday’s game. Hopefully he will continue to have opportunities in the NFL as he works hard to stay in the league.
