Legendary TV Host Credits Prayers for Miraculous Healing

Kathie Lee Gifford has made a miraculous recovery after falling and fracturing her pelvis last month.
The famed talk show host shared with TODAY about her journey through injury and recovery.
“I had a hip replacement that I needed because my hips apparently were down to the absolute nubs,” she explained.
When she asked why her hips were like that, her doctor responded, “Because the life you’ve lived…You’ve been climbing mountains, you’ve been dancing on all kinds of stages, you’ve been running for airplanes, you know, you wear your body out.”
Kathie Lee Gifford joins TODAY to talk about her recent health challenges, gives an update on her pelvis fracture after a fall and talks about her book, Herod & Mary.

Gifford explained that she had been in pain for two years, so she finally got the hip replacement. She was healing and feeling great, but when she ran down her stairs at home to open the door for a friend, she fell.
Her pelvis cracked in two places, requiring surgery. As she was healing from her new injury, Gifford noticed something strange.
“I was out in my little farm here, I was walking around [with] a walker,” she said. “But I realized that I wasn’t in any pain…I was in no pain at all. And I was off painkillers, I was off all that stuff!”
Gifford’s doctor was confused as to why she felt no pain and asked her to come in for further testing. What he discovered was nothing short of a miracle.
“He comes in with my X-ray and goes, ‘Look at this Kathie. You want to see your X-ray?’ And I go, ‘That’s my X-ray?’ He goes, ‘Yeah. You’re completely healed. You are cured,'” Gifford recalled.
“And he’s an incredible man of God, yes, but he doesn’t see that very often!” she continued. “He said, ‘You are healed. It is a miracle.’”
Gifford knows that the prayers of others played a part in her miraculous healing.
“You have to give credit to all the prayers, and I sob when I think about all the people who reached out to me,” she said.
She encouraged her fans to trust God for miracles as well.
“If people are out there, looking for hope, waiting for your miracles, keep hoping, guys,” she said. “God hears your prayers. He knows what you’re going through. I’m just, I’m deeply grateful and I’m still praying for all the friends and the loved ones in my life who have not received their healing yet.”
Movieguide® previously reported how Gifford used her injury as a time to rest and draw closer to God:
These experiences have been an eye-opener for her about the realities of aging.
“You think you know your body and the next thing you know, your body changes when you get older,” she added. “And as much as I don’t wanna think about it, I am.”
Although she’s now unable to do anything fun this summer, she’s looking at the positive side of things. For Gifford, this is an opportunity to rest and spend time with God.
“It’s summer for everybody but me,” she said. “But it’s OK. I’m going to get out to my little farm one of these days and stick my feet in my salt pool. The Lord is telling me it’s time to slow down. I’ve been running my whole life. The Lord is telling me, ‘You’ve planted a gazillion roses. Try smelling them.’”
She recently released a new book called “Herod and Mary: The True Story of the Tyrant King and the Mother of the Risen Savior.”
“This riveting narrative nonfiction work reveals deep insight to how Herod came to power, how corruption and an ancient evil threatened the stability of a nation, and how a teenage Mary was called to traverse these obstacles to bring the Savior, Jesus, our living hope, into the world,” a synopsis reads.
“I’m fascinated by these huge, huge, epic evil presences all through scripture, always juxtaposed against God’s goodness and His hope,” Gifford said of the book’s inspiration.
