Kid Rock Donates $100K to Aid Small Businesses in Wake of Government Lockdowns

Singer-songwriter Kid Rock decided to back a campaign to raise money for small businesses, bars and restaurants across America affected by COVID-19 related lockdowns.

“This is the America I love,” Kid Rock tweeted, speaking about the importance of people working together to keep small businesses afloat.

The 49-year-old rocker donated $100,000 to the Barstool Sports’ Barstool Fund, the financial relief program that sports journalist Dave Portnoy started. Rock’s donation added to the already impressive $17 million that Portnoy’s campaign has raised.

“I only post this in hopes others as blessed as me may be moved to help out,” Kid Rock said via Twitter.

Portnoy started the Barstool Fund to assist those most affected by shutdowns.

“How do we expect these people to survive?” Portnoy said. “How are restaurants going to survive? Nobody in the government seems to care. Or, at least, no one is acting like they care.”

Portnoy added: “Hopefully, we can save as many small businesses as humanly possible.”

For a business to qualify for aid from the campaign, companies must maintain an active payroll. The money also must be used to keep the designated establishment operating, despite lockdowns and restrictions.
