Christian artist Ben Fuller recently shared the moment that almost led him to break six years of sobriety.
“Last week, I was tempted to drink again,” he told Church Leaders. “I almost did — and I just celebrated six years [of sobriety]. It would’ve been so easy to fall off that road, to take my eyes off Jesus. Like Peter, I would’ve sunk in the water.”
Fuller said the reason he felt tempted was because he hadn’t “opened the Word in two days. I’m guilty of that. So I pray, ‘Lord, help me stay in your Word and learn your instructions for what’s next.’”
The story went hand-in-hand with Fuller’s message for fans, telling them, “We just need to remain humble, to almost harness it in a way that says, ‘Okay, God, we see you moving. We love this so much. How do we not get conceited with it or take it into our own hands but just let the Holy Spirit work.’”

“My job is to introduce people to Jesus while keeping my relationship with him on fire,” Fuller continued. “If I do that, I won’t lose my way. It’s easy to lose your way — and when your pace gets out of whack, you end up on the broad road.”
Fuller has been open about his alcohol abuse, telling Movieguide® that a visit to a church service changed his life.
“As a man that lived 14 years in secret addiction, it was like, ‘There’s freedom here.’ I can call on His name and ask Him into my heart, and there’s freedom,” he said.
Fuller continued, “And over the course of two months, 20 beers a night turned into no beers a night…I was just convicted of these things. It was like, ‘Cut all this out, and make Me the priority.’”
In an interview with The Christian Post, he shared, “I’ve just realized that Jesus has been holding my hand through every single one of these fires in my life. Losing my best friend to heroin. Heartbreak after heartbreak. Years of addiction. A tough relationship with my father. And out the other side, here I am.”
“It’s been a lot,” Fuller continued. “But He’s made me and shaped me into this man who trusts in the Lord with all of his heart, all of his mind, and all of his soul. And it’s just like, well, I got nothing else but Jesus now.”
Fuller’s confession is a reminder that our relationships with God can get us through anything.
