MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE fans, rejoice! We’re finally getting more details about the upcoming spin-off of the early 2000s sitcom.
The four-episode limited series picks up well after the original’s timeline. Malcolm Wilkerson is now grown and living with his daughter and girlfriend, but he’s drawn back into the family chaos when parents Hal and Lois Wilkerson demand his attendance at their 40th wedding-anniversary party. Each episode is about 30 minutes.
Returning cast members include Jane Kaczmarek, Bryan Cranston, Frankie Muniz, Chris Kennedy Masterson, Justin Berfield, and Emy Coligado. Erik Per Sullivan will not return as Dewey. The character will now be played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark, and several other new cast members, including Keeley Karsten, Vaughan Murrae and Kiana Madeira, will join the series.
MALCOM IN THE MIDDLE: LIFE’S STILL UNFAIR has no official premiere date yet, but the show is expected to arrive in 2026.
“I think people will be surprised, in a sense, where everybody is and the story. It’s hard to fit in 20 years of stuff into four 30-minute episodes, right? But I think people are going to be very happy with what they came up with,” Muniz said of the reboot.

In a teaser video posted to Hulu’s Instagram account, the streamer announced, “LIFE’S STILL UNFAIR, a special four-part event, streams 2026.”
People in the comment section expressed excitement for the new show.
“Definitely deserves more than 4 episodes,” one excited fan said. Another person added, “Life may still be unfair, but we are being blessed in life with this news today!!!!”
Earlier this year, Cranston shared his excitement for the upcoming reboot.
“Slipping back into that character of Hal for me was so rewarding — I missed him,” he said in a discussion with PEOPLE. “It’s been almost 20 years since we said goodbye. And he’s a sweet, lovable man. He’s really a lovable guy, and it was fun to see all my whole family back together. It was great.”
Disney execs are excited about the show as well.
“MALCOM IN THE MIDDLE is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humor, heart, and relatability,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television. “It’s hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again,”
She added, “With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved — along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.”
It’s set to air on Disney+.
