Stars of the hit early 2000s show MALCOM IN THE MIDDLE couldn’t be more excited for its upcoming revival, which just wrapped filming.

“Slipping back into that character of Hal for me was so rewarding — I missed him,” Bryan Cranston, who plays dad Hal, told PEOPLE of returning to the character. “It’s been almost 20 years since we said goodbye. And he’s a sweet, lovable man. He’s really a lovable guy, and it was fun to see all my whole family back together. It was great.”

The sitcom, which ran from 2000-2006, followed the Wilkerson family.

“When Malcolm, one of four children, learns that he possesses a genius-level intellect, his whole young world is turned upside down. Still desperately trying to fit in with his friends and family despite his extraordinary gifts, Malcolm finds that though his life might have changed, it’s still just as chaotic as ever,” a synopsis reads.

During that time, it won seven Emmys, two American Comedy awards and was nominated for dozens of other awards.

The upcoming reprise will focus of Malcom, once again played by Frankie Muniz, and his daughter as they reunite with the family and their craziness at a wedding anniversary.

Deadline reported other cast members will include, “Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield, who portrayed Malcolm’s older brothers, Francis and Reese, respectively. Caleb Ellsworth-Clark is taking over the role of genius Malcolm’s younger brother, Dewey.”

Muniz recently took to Instagram to share how much the reprise means to him and how excited he is for fans to see it.

“Just wrapped filming the MALCOM IN THE MIDDLE reboot, and man, I’m still reeling. This experience was straight-up incredible — like stepping back into Malcolm’s wild world but with all the love and chaos cranked to 11,” he said in the post.

He added that “making new memories on set felt like a dream I didn’t want to wake up from. It went by so fast, like a blur of perfect moments. I wish it could go on forever.”

Muniz, who now races professionally as a NASCAR driver, shared how this experience rekindled his love of acting.

“Another big thing I am taking away from this experience is how much I truly love being an actor. I never officially felt like that label fit me, but now I wear that label proudly and hope to do so much more of it in the future,” he said.

Fans in the comment section shared their excitement for the sequel series. “I’ve watched every episode at least 10 times. My favorite series of all time. Beyond excited for this!” one user said. Another person added, “I’m so excited to see what the family is up to.”

The new MALCOM IN THE MIDDLE reboot is set to release later in 2025 to Disney+.
