By Movieguide® Contributor
US Women’s National Team player, Mallory Swanson, was recently carried off the field in a stretcher after suffering a torn patella.
While there is no timetable for Mallory’s recovery, it is likely that she will not return in time for the World Cup this summer. The young star will also miss most, if not all, of the National Women’s Soccer League that just began play on March 25

Swanson updated fans in a post on her Instagram following surgery to her knee.
“This is hard. I’m in shock and don’t have much to say other than, thank you to everyone for the messages. I feel the love and prayers, and holding them close to my heart. Surgery this morning was a success. I’m thankful for my trainers, doctors, coaches, and teammates for their help throughout this process,” Swanson wrote.
She concluded the post stating that God has all control.
“The beauty out of all of this, is that God is always good. He’s got me and always has ♥️.”
Similarly, 2021 was a year filled with injuries for Swanson. Amid the trial, Swanson experienced much spiritual growth.
“I feel like my identity was so wrapped up in soccer, and then when the game is kind of taken away from you, you start questioning,” she told Sports Spectrum at the time. “Am I actually supposed to be doing this? And I feel like God, He took that away from me so I could go find Him and that I could have a deeper relationship with Him.”
Dansby Swanson, Mallory Swanson’s husband took her to surgery then later played his game against the Cubs. He removed himself early from the game but not before striking four hits on four at bats.
Following the game Dansby commented on the trial that the couple is facing as well as where their hope lies.
“She’s all right,” Dansby stated, referring to his wife. “Everybody knows it’s a pretty tough and heartbreaking situation. I’m heartbroken for her, just a lot of tears and sadness. Two things can be true at the same time: We can be sad and upset, but we can also understand God’s bigger picture and plans. We’ll get through it together.”
Movieguide® previously reported the couple’s marriage:
US Women’s Soccer Team star Mallory Pugh and Atlanta Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson just tied the knot!
The athletes got married December 10 at the Ritz Carlton Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Georgia.
Pugh and Swanson met through the soccer player’s brother-in-law, who introduced the pair.
“To get married in front of our family and friends is so special,” the couple said in a statement to People. “It means that we are becoming one and get to impact God’s kingdom together.”
The statement continued, “We loved having everyone in one place to celebrate, dance and enjoy each other.”
