Soccer Star’s Olympic Gold Marks Major Comeback: ‘God Is So Good’

Chicago Cubs baseball star Dansby Swanson is praising God for his wife, Mallory Pugh Swanson’s, Olympic gold.
Mallory earned her gold after the United States Women’s National Soccer Team took down Brazil in a 1-0 victory in Paris.
She scored Team USA’s only goal in the game’s fifty-seventh minute.
“God is so good. Always and forever,” her husband posted. “You are such an inspiration to so many, but more to me than anyone can ever fathom. Your faith in God’s plan, gratitude in life, the grace and joy in which you live and play, the perseverance to fight through whatever obstacles thrown your way.”
“You are truly a gift from above, and you shine with that every day. I’m speechless,” he added. “And now you’re a gold medal, Olympic champion, and 100 caps in the same day. And that can never be taken from you. I love you forever.”
Mallory’s journey hasn’t been easy.
“Swanson tore her patellar tendon in 2023 – an injury that typically demands at least six months of recovery time. The full rupture required surgery, and the site became infected just a week post-operation. Swanson underwent a second surgery – an emergency procedure to remove the infection – and was on IV antibiotics for nearly six weeks,” Team USA reported.
Her husband previously reflected on how Mallory relied on her faith to overcome the injury.
“In God’s beauty and brilliance, he can take something that’s so devastating and create something even more amazing than one could ever imagine,” Dansby said. “It’s just a testament to her and her gratitude, her joy, her love, grace — any positive attribute you can come up with — just how she’s handled every bit of this is amazing.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Mallory’s injury:
US Women’s National Team player, Mallory Swanson, was recently carried off the field in a stretcher after suffering a torn patella.
While there is no timetable for Mallory’s recovery, it is likely that she will not return in time for the World Cup this summer. The young star will also miss most, if not all, of the National Women’s Soccer League that just began play on March 25.
Swanson updated fans in a post on her Instagram following surgery to her knee.
“This is hard. I’m in shock and don’t have much to say other than, thank you to everyone for the messages. I feel the love and prayers, and holding them close to my heart. Surgery this morning was a success. I’m thankful for my trainers, doctors, coaches, and teammates for their help throughout this process,” Swanson wrote.
She concluded the post stating that God has all control.
“The beauty out of all of this, is that God is always good. He’s got me and always has ♥️.”
Taking home gold is a major boost to the soccer star.
USA goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher told Team USA, “Mal just made me start crying just to see her journey, to see her maturity…I’ve obviously been fortunate to be with her every step of the way the last few years. And just to see her come into this tournament, to score that goal in this game, I love her to death. And just to see her emotional, to see that joy in her face again of being back on the field…I’m just so incredibly proud.”
