Massive Meta AI Update Hits Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp

Meta is launching a sweeping update to its AI service that adds impressive features such as the automatic editing of photos and the ability to have an out loud conversation with the chatbot.
The new features also include the ability to show the AI a picture and have it identify things in the photo, like the type of bird or plant, and to converse with celebrities, including John Cena, Awkwafina and Kristen Bell. Another feature is automatically translating and dubbing posts in a variety of different languages.
Business owners who use WhatsApp will also find new features, including the ability to have AI automatically respond to customers who reach out using the platform.
“Meta AI differentiates itself in this category by not just offering state-of-the-art AI models, but also unlimited access to those models for free, integrated easily into our different products and apps,” said Meta’s Founder, Mark Zuckerberg. “So Meta AI is on track to being the most used AI assistant in the world by the end of this year. In fact, it’s probably already there. … We’re almost at 500 million monthly activities, and we haven’t even launched in some of the bigger countries yet.”
These new features build on Meta AI’s current abilities to provide accurate summaries and generate images. Meta AI launched last year during the start of the AI frenzy. The company has since heavily pushed it across all of its platforms, making it an ever-present feature in many cases.
It is no surprise that Meta has taken this large step in its AI abilities as earlier this year it created a four-person advisory board to oversee its AI development while announcing at the same time it would be heavily investing in the tech.
“We expect capital expenditures will continue to increase next year as we invest aggressively to support our ambitious AI research and product development efforts,” Meta said in April.

As Meta looks to push further into the AI industry, the company set up an advisory board made up of four tech entrepreneurs to provide recommendations on how the company should pursue the technology moving forward.
“This advisory group is tasked with offering insights and recommendations on technological advancements, innovation and strategic growth opportunities,” a Meta spokesperson said in a statement.
“I’ve come to deeply respect this group of people and their achievements in their respective areas, and I’m grateful that they’re willing to share their perspective with Meta at such an important time as we take on new opportunities with AI and the metaverse,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg added in an internal note to employees, per Bloomberg.
