Matthew West Reflects on How Eclipse Reveals God’s ‘Intricately Designed’ Universe
By Movieguide® Contributor
Christian artist Matthew West recently took to his podcast to share his thoughts on last week’s eclipse and the lessons we can learn from it.
“Social media was going nuts and scaring everybody half to death about what could go wrong, and we’re still here!” West said.
West explained that he found it interesting that many Christians believed the rapture was going to happen during the eclipse, but he then read a scripture that explains how none of us will know when it is going to happen.
“Matthew chapter 24 verse 36 says it very clear[ly],” he explained. “When people try to predict when the Lord is coming back, and they’ve got all of this empirical scientific evidence, and they’re putting it all on the internet, I just keep coming back to this verse.”
“When people think they know, they don’t know. Because there is only one God, and he knows, and the Bible tells us clearly, however, ‘No one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself, only the Father knows.’”
“I’m just going to keep my eyes on Jesus, keep running my race well and be ready,” West said.
West then went on to share how the eclipse was a beautiful reminder of our Creator.
“I thought of how intricately designed our entire universe is, and I was humbly reminded that the sun, the moon, the stars, the Earth and the sky, the galaxies, the planets, they’re not the result of some big random boom that scientists may try to make us believe,” he said. “Those who say there is no God would call a Christian a fool for saying they believe God created the heavens and the earth like Genesis tells us.”
West also took to Instagram to share an inspirational quote from his podcast.
“Look up and be reminded that the One who put the sun, the moon, and the stars in place is also orchestrating every detail of your life,” he said.
West has spent his career sharing the love of God through his music. His website states, “Matthew West is a five-time GRAMMY® nominee, NSAI’s 2022 Songwriter-Artist of the Year, ASCAP’s 2023 Golden Note Award recipient, and a multiple ASCAP Christian Music Songwriter/Artist of the Year winner. He has received an American Music Award, a Billboard Music Award, K-LOVE Fan Awards, GMA Dove Awards, and has been named Billboard’s Hot Christian Songwriter of the Year.”

Last Monday, Christian music artist Matthew West took to X to respond to President Biden after he declared March 31—Easter Sunday—as Transgender Day of Visibility.
West replied, “Dear Mr. President, Yesterday was EASTER SUNDAY. As for me and my house, the only thing celebrated on 3/31 was a risen Savior who died and rose again to take away the sins of the world. Praying for our nation to return to ‘one nation under God,’ & for our leaders to display better wisdom than this.”
The singer addressed the matter in his latest podcast episode, “What is this World Coming to?”
“I feel like my prayer life can resemble the weather in Nashville these last couple days,” West began. “Wherever the wind blows, you know what I mean? And that’s okay. I think stream-of-consciousness prayers and just things that pop into your head you think to pray about that. But sometimes praying for my nation and my leaders doesn’t pop into my head often enough.”
