Missy Robertson Reflects on God’s Presence at Kirk Cameron Library Event

By Movieguide® Contributor

DUCK DYNASTY’s Missy Robertson recently opened up about the pushback she, Kirk Cameron and Brave Books experienced at a public library event.

Her father-in-law Phil Robertson shared his thoughts on the event.

“The evil one was out to scheme and disrupt when Missy Robertson and Kirk Cameron did a public library reading for kids,” Robertson wrote on Instagram. “Kirk’s book is about love, joy, and gentleness, and Missy’s is about family and unconditional love, for crying out loud!”

Movieguide® previously reported on this event in Hendersonville, Tennessee, which included Cameron, Missy Robertson, Bethany Hamilton and Riley Gaines.

This reading is part of Cameron’s ongoing “Freedom Island” book tour, which aims to “reclaim the hearts and minds of America’s children.”

“This thing is just growing,” he explained. “It’s like this tiny little mustard seed that’s growing into this giant tree—and pretty soon, it’s going to fill the whole nation. It’s really exciting because when the woke mobilizes, celebrities and politicians love to come out and show their support—and now it seems like the tides are finally turning.”

He shared that “thousands and thousands of parents and grandparents, plus politicians and schoolteachers and so many others, are joining us at each stop.”

While the local community was thrilled about the event, Robertson shared on the Unashamed podcast how the library staff attempted to disrupt the event before it began.

One staff member “started a campaign in the community to shut it down without officially canceling it because then he knew that wouldn’t be good for their library,” Robertson shared.

As Cameron, Robertson and Gaines tried to film some marketing videos for Brave Books, the staff was “hollering and laughing and banging books and [being] really disrupting.”

At that moment, 1 Peter 5:8 came to Robertson’s mind. It reads, “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

Robertson added that no one “can be a prey and be more vulnerable than a child.

“[The library staff] don’t want them to hear about the unconditional love and forgiveness of family,” she added. “Those are taught by us and written on our heart by the one who created us and loves us more than anything else in the world.”

They were “thwarting” messages about the fruits of the spirit and “how to overcome your fear to achieve your goals and to become what God wants you to be.”

Despite the attacks, Phil Robertson added in his post that Jesus was present at the event even “while the evil one prowled.”

“There were hundreds more people down the sidewalk, down the street in the rain holding their children waiting to get in,” Missy Robertson added.

She shared that the readings touched both the children and their parents.

“We need to we need to make sure that our voices are as loud or louder than theirs because that was a very few of those people in the library compared to hundreds…[possibly] thousands…that came that day, and those are the ones that want the best for their children in terms of what the Lord has written on their hearts to give them,” Robertson expressed.

It “just takes a few loud, obnoxious, immoral people to try to put a damper on that and stop it, and we just can’t let it happen for the sake of our children,” she concluded. “We have to stand up.”

Phil Robertson concluded his post by reflecting on Jesus’ words in Matthew 19:14: “Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’”

Movieguide® previously reported on this event:

Kirk Cameron will head to Hendersonville, Tennessee, for a special patriotic book reading that will include other stars like Missy Robertson, Riley Gaines and Bethany Hamilton.

He expects thousands to attend this reading, including DUCK DYNASTY star Robertson, women’s sports advocate Gaines and professional surfer Hamilton—the inspiration behind SOUL SURFER, winner of the 2012 Best Movie for Families Movieguide® Award.

“[Hamilton has] been all over the news for standing up for what’s right and overcoming the fear of being canceled, so she’s going to share her message with the kids,” Cameron said.

In addition to Cameron’s reading, Robertson will read from her book, Because You’re My Family, and Cameron shared that he will lead the crowd in a “big patriotic prayer,” the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance.

“It’s so beautiful to see so many movements happening, perhaps providentially, guiding the nation back to its founding principles,” he added.

“When you go woke, you go broke—morally, spiritually and politically.” Cameron shared. “And maybe this is the hand of God waking people up so that this loving army of compassion will take back the hearts and minds of our children.”
